300 WM load test results

Recommended Posts

Saturday afternoon I got to work on some of my load development on my new 300 WM, for the past week I've had some mixed results with then Berger 230 grain hybrid match so I switched over to the 230 OTM and the 208 Amax bullets.

The Amax loads start at 74.0 grains of H1000 and go up to 77.5 grns in .5 grn increments

The OTM loads are just. A repeat of what I shot earlier in the week and the results repeated themselves so I'm going to stick with the posted load and seating depth on this particular bullet.

Next is now getting chronograph data so I can plug into my ballistics software and have some data to work with to get to 1 mile.

Below are pictures of today's results and all groups were shot at 300 yards. Temps today were in the low 80's with winds gusting up to 12 mph and steady of around 5-8 mph. Although some may disagree but all groups with exception of 1 group, the rest are 3 shots.
The group sizes are posted with the pics and also load date and bullet length measured off the ogive.

Well I managed to get back to the range this morning and run my loads over the chronograph ( Magneto Speed V3 ) the 75 grains of H-1000 and the 230 grain OTM Bergers averaged 2800 fps and at 300 yards this morning I put five shots in under 1/4"

Next I tested the 208 grain Hornady Amax with 75.5 grains of H-1000 and the avg velocity on those were 2864 fps. They grouped under 1/2" at 300 as well so I am happy camper for sure on these two loads.
