I have been watching a new little 3 or 4 business mini mall being built at the end of my road I live on. Heard several people in Krogers about 3 weeks ago talking about a great new Restaurant was going to be in one of the shops. It is in the big one on the end but it will never see my money. Panera's will open up there. Signs are up and they will open any day now. I was hoping for a good restaurant was coming to town but not my bubble has busted once again........................

Panera somehow has most people fooled into thinking that it's healthier than fast food.  Well, it is fast food just like the rest.  Lots of it is processed at various plants, frozen, and then microwaved in the kitchen.

Panera is good but way over-priced.  Two adult meals and two kid meals was about $45... for lunch!  I'll make a sammich at the house next time, thanks.

I quit going when they took their Cuban off the menu. I agree it is not very good for you and that it is expensive for what you get but it really is great food.

One more thing, most people have not tried what is the best thing about Panera and that is the fresh bread and pastries.

I have seen their commercials on TV and the idea of dumping hot soup in a bowl made of bread is just about the biggest turn off I have ever seen. I want my soup in a bowl and my bread sticks on the side but really prefer crackers with soup anyway. But don't have to worry cause the signs on the doors will keep me out......................jmho

Give it a try with their creamy tomato soup.  I think it's pretty awesome.

That broccoli cheese soup is purty good in the bread bowl thing. But I ain't one to go to a restaurant just for soup. And the crust on bread I've had was rock hard. If I'm gonna get my mouth all lacerated by food I'm going with Cap'n Crunch. Edited by JWC

We pretty much agree on that. Even the bagels are rock hard.

So now we've established that I don't like hard breads and stale bagels.

Artisan breads are good to break teeth with, and bagels should be chewy not usable as hammers.

And they are way over priced.

Panera does about everything but does none of them well. Better coffee can be found at Dunkin and better food just about anywhere else.
