So he pulls the guy over for a seatbelt violation. fine.

He gets out of the car and tells him to get his wallet. fine

The guy darts into his car somewhat quickly....

So there's always that argument of "I would have done this, or that". Things happen in the spur of the moment, I get that. But this trooper had no justification to shoot the guy. Especially not shots 3 and 4 which occurred with his hands up in the air.

I understand there's a lot of risk involved with being LEO. I believe I would have drawn as well in this case. I don't believe however that I would have taken a sprint around the car and opened up on a guy without having seen a gun first. Maybe fallen back behind my cruiser. Who knows.

This just escalated way too fast.

Luckily his aim is as bad as his judgement and the guy lived with no serious injury. He seemed to take being shot as well as you can I suppose.

For the record, they've let the officer go and he's up on charges.

Oh.. and if this is a repost, I apologize.

wow that is F'd up.

And why is a cop stopping a guy at a gas station over a seatbelt anyway?  On the road I guess I can see it, but in a parking lot?

Where did the errant bullets go?

Looks like at least one went through the drivers side window.

Here is a link to a better article... http://www.cbsnews.com/news/sean-groubert-former-south-carolina-trooper-charged-in-shooting/

I'm pleasantly surprised to see the office charged...  clearly it was a bad shooting...  and a questionable stop, since there is no way the trooper witnessed the driver violating the law which is required in SC (and TN) to perform a stop for the seat belt law.

And yet another reason we should repeal the unconstitutional seat belt law in this state.  It's no different than trying to ban big gulp drinks, and candy bars...  none of the governments business if an adult is wearing a seat belt or not.

You didn't buckle your seatbelt so I'm going to shoot you to teach you a lesson about safety.  I bet he buckles his seatbelt next time.

Clearly this guy has no business being in law enforcement.  He has been fired and is awaiting criminal prosecution.  I guess it's difficult to predict who will snap when the adrenaline starts pumping.

Someone will be along shortly to say that this is only an isolated incident, but these isolated incidents are being reported quite frequently. I always wonder how much goes unreported.

So, what was the purpose of posting this?

Does not meet any of the criteria set forth here.

Shutting it down.

I will say that the officer is 100% wrong and is not representative of the vast majority of LE.
