My sons first time but where ?

Well it will be my sons first time hunting this season. He is 13 but I need to stay around town this weekend so does anyone know a good place around Shelby County for the youth hunt weekend for deer ?

I was waiting to see if anyone was going to answer you before I answered.....because I don't know of any "good" place around here.

Shelby Forest allows public hunting.....I just don't know how good it is.

I know there are a lot and a lot of good deer on Presidents Island, but are they all draw hunts? I was thinking they might have a youth hunt that is open, it may be a draw hunt too.

The Island is bow only. Shelby Forrest is no rifles.

What about the Wolf River and Ghost River State Natural Area near LaGrange, TN? According to the TWRA Hunting & Trapping guide, it is open for gun/archery for the Young Sportsman hunt set for this weekend, 10-26 & 26th.

Although I don't see it listed, do they allow hunting in the Hatchie Wildlife area. I know that I used to hunt squirrels there when I lived in Jackson years ago.

I took the kids out there a while back, went out on the board walk in the Ghost River area, didn't see a deer, it was mid afternoon, did see an armadillo, nasty little critter. On the way back, going through LaGrange, we saw deer everywhere, fields, yards, along the highway. Lots of deer out in that area. When I was a kid we hunted north of the Aims Plantation, good times. I miss it.
