Knives: DOs and DON'Ts

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Mora Companion Stainless Steel. This is probably the first knife that I have bought myself that I actually want to take care of. So I was wanting to get some pointers on how to take care of it. I want it to actually last.

Also, do any of you know where to get a new sheath for it? I got the neon orange one so it wouldn't lose it in the woods, but the sheath looks ridiculous carrying it on my waist. Not that I care about looks, but this sucker sticks out like a sore thumb.  Thanks for the help.

Keep it sharp. If you need help on that, look under my topics, I have a large write up on sharpening. Keep it oiled, even being stainless it will eventually rust if you don't oil it. Don't use it for a prybar, screw driver, etc. Other than that you should be good to go. Keeping a knife sharp is the number 1 rule of owning a knife to me. A sharp knife makes everything easier and safer.
