I've shot a lot of the Monarch .223 lacquered case steel and it's fine, highest FPS of 4 Russian rounds I did chrono on. AFAIK, all the Monarch lacquered steel calibers are rebranded Barnaul Brown Bear.

More than double the price of surplus, OUCH............................That may be our only choice in a few years, commercial fodder at twice the price once all the surplus dries up.

It's not more than double anymore with the prices that I see for surplus these days, but it is close. Surplus 7.62x54R ammo will eventually go the way of .303, 8mm, 7.62x25, etc. surplus ammo...and commercial ammo will become a better deal, especially if you reload.

the price of surplus started going up right after newtown, as before that there was a website selling surplus so cheap you could get four 440 round tins for about $130 shipped, but i dont mind paying the price i payed as its local and dont have to pay shipping
