50th birthday pistol suggestions

Wife just advised me I need to provide her a list of present request for my 50th birthday in February. I'm thinking I need an heirloom pistol since all my current pistols are carry guns. I am soliciting ideas on a "unicorn" pistol that will be a great celebration of 50 years on earth and also a treasured piece to hand down to my son when I'm too old to shoot it. I've been advised to stay within a budget of 2k the 3k so let's hear your ideas. Edited by Mykltn

Since you are 50, just add another zero, then buy this:

I would agree with the 1911, but I would go with the 38super . Super fun round and very accurate. And with a budget like that put the rest in big brother 1911/45 and ammo for both

For heirloom stuff I always like to go highly customizes......keeps me from selling it  .

I second (or 11th) the idea of a nice customized 1911. I'd bet you can get something one of a kind without breaking the bank. Giving us a general idea of what you already have or don't want may help weed out some redundant responses too.

Orrrrr, you could always track down that custom Glock that had the trigger guard removed and lots of other custom work done to it.

Well, if I were presented with such an enviable task, my response would also definitely be something with a cylinder, nice grips and some tasteful engraving.  Then, again, as it is for your 50th, maybe something like this would be appropriate:

Matched set of 50th anniversary Ruger Blackhawks, one in .357 and the other in .44 Mag.  Serial numbers both have the same last three digits.  Says they are used but that they are unfired.  You could easily rectify the latter part of that statement.

Depends on your tastes. For a semi auto, Ed Brown, no doubt. But Id also look hard at either a Colt Python or Anaconda. Try finding a 5" Anaconda

Oh no doubt. The Pythons are beautiful.

I would get one of the colt reissues with the patent date rollmarks ( black army, carbonia blue, WWII ) and send it to John Harrison for one of his custom packages. should be able to keep it under three grand, maybe.
