Richard "Jaws" Kiel Dies

The actor who finally found a part he could sink his teeth into has died at age 74. He was one of the most infamous Bond villains, but made his chops in other movie and television roles. My favorite was his bit as the alien on The Twilight Zone episode, who gathered up earthlings so as "To Serve Man" with a little side of baked beans.

He scared the heck out me as a kid when I saw him in Moonraker.

Yep.  And nearly every time I think of a 'Bond nemesis' he is one of the first to come to mind (right along with Goldfinger and Oddjob.)  Thing is, for some reason I can't completely explain I have the feeling that he was probably a really nice guy in 'real life'.  It seems like I saw him on a couple of shows where he was not 'in character' and that was how he came across.

He will be missed and I can't remember the name of the movie but he was the hired gun for Jerry Reed and they drove around in a Cadillac El Dorado and Richard would be driving with his head and shoulders out the sun roof. It was a funny type movie. That  movie and the Longest Yard with Bert Reynolds  I remember him best in.

The movie was Gator and that wasn't Richard Kiel, it was some other giant of a man.

From what I've heard from someone who met him he was a really nice guy in person.  A gentle giant.

Wasn't there a Bond movie where he almost became a good guy at the end (or am I mis-remembering)?  All the really cool and popular villains eventually become good guys (in both film and wrestling).  I remember how excited my dad would get when he would have me watch a Bond film with Jaws; he really loved that my brother and I shared his interest in the films.

It was Moonraker. He helped Bond and fell in love with Dolly at the end.

A similar switch happened with his character in Pale Rider, from bad-guy's hired muscle to valuable part of the good-guys' team.

First the Chic-fil-a founder, now Jaws? Bad week.

I may have to stop by Chic-fil-a and pop a few bond movies in this weekend for good measure. He will be missed.

I remember him from Force 10 From Navarone, plus the others mentioned above.
