Is there a range around Knoxville... or Sevierville to shoot 100 yards that is open to the public?

Thanks. Have you shot there? Very crowded?

John Sevier has odd hours and even odder range officers, LOL.   I have not gone back in years.  It is affordable so it has that going for it.

Drove by it today and it was closed.

Been a couple of years ago since I've been but there's usually a few people there.  It is a "controlled" range with range officers and a certain way of doing things.

It is only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sats and Suns...and it is closed the first weekend of each month.  it is a nice range though.  I have always enjoyed myself there.  It is only $6 for 2 hours I think.

You aren't kidding on that one.

You might look into the Norris Shooting Range in Norris, Tn.

I believe you have to stop by the Norris Police Station for a permit.

You can look here for more ranges in our area.

Norris is the way to go if you shoot much, well worth the drive up there when you have the extra time to spare. Plus you get 200 yard option.

$40/year, and now's a good time to join, you get until June 30 for that.

I haven't used the ORSA rifle range since I was a teenager.  But I have shot IDPA there a few years ago.  I also tried to hawk Appleseed there once.  They didn't host one.  But it still seems to be a good place.

I was at the ORSA Rifle range yesterday.

ORSA membership is $120.00/year, but you get a lot for the money.

ORSA has a 200 yd rifle range, is currently building a 100 yd "Rifle plinking" range that is supposed to have steel targets, plus a 1000 yd rifle range.

There actually is an indoor range there as well, but for whatever reason isn't advertised. It's open on weekends, Sat & Sun afternoon. I know because I'm one of the guys that takes turns "baby-sitting" the indoor range.

There is also an outdoor handgun plinking range and of course the Action Pistol range.

No, this isn't an advertisement for ORSA...just another option. :pleased:

Norris is a good range as well...but twice the drive distance for me.

I like the fact that neither Norris nor ORSA have "Range Mommies" dictating how you shoot.  Yet they are both safe places to shoot.

Has Norris improved?  I used to be a member back in the Mid-90's.  It was the wild west out there.  I don't think I ever ran into dishonest types...but routinely would go down range to hang targets, then turn around to someone fiddling with their rifle with it pointed in my general direction.  I know they renovated it and it is much nicer now...but I used to be leery about going out there alone.  Again, not because I thought someone would fool with my gun while i was down range, but because they would fool with theirs!

That and it seemed like there would always be a group of new shooters who would constantly muzzle-sweep the entire firing line.

I have had good luck with the RO's at John Sevier.  There was a dork out there once demanding to see my tax stamp for a suppressor I was running.  I just told him I had already showed it to the TWRA officer in the office, hence my having an orange range tag.  He backed off after that, but seemed ripe about it.

I could tell several stories about range officer's at Sevier.   But no point in devolving the thread.  All I will say is they let a little bit of authority go to their head.

Not a big fan of John Sevier.  Takes for ever to check in, through TWRA's system and the RSOs, as stated earlier, are a strange breed. I joined out at Norris at the first of July and I love it there.  I've found I'm usually alone.  I've never seen more than 5 or 6 people there.  It's well kept too.  Best $40 I've spent shooting ever!

I wonder if there was any one in it?  Or could it have been some in it that did the shooting?!
