Question on what gun for civil unrest

I work in Cool Springs and my wife works on Brentwood. Should civil unrest occur and I need to go get her would it be better to have lots of magazines loaded for my Glock in the truck with me or the AR15 loaded with lots of magazines?

I have a Just Right Carbine in the same caliber as the Glock would it be better than the AR with a little more reach than the pistol by itself?

I guess loaded magazine round count would br the decider. Glock/Just Right Carbine 165 rounds and AR15 would be 320 to 350 rounds.

Me, I'd load my AR pistol in 300blk with an ammo can full of loaded mags. My glock 23 would be my backup. The 10.5 barrel is great in confined spaces and perfectly legal to carry locked and loaded.

For most urban scenarios I would go with shotgun with extended mag tube and handgun. Both with lots of ammo and mags for the handgun.

I'd start "hoarding" glock mags. Your JR in 9mm is pretty effective to 50-100 yards, it's the same caliber as your handgun and shares mags.

What about 33 round glock mags for your carbine?

My just Right Carbine is a .45acp. The Korean 27 round mags work okay once they have been tuned. It feeds best from the factory 13 round mags. I do need more mags though.

My father was lobbing in shots with his 9mm Just Right Carbine at 500 yards the other day!      The convinence of the JR Carbine and your Glock taking the same magazines is awesome, and is really fun at the range, but it's hard to beat the power of the AR...  I'd say if you can afford both, then do both, but to me, going to get your wife from work to save her from "civil unrest" seems like something out of a movie....     I think of having an AR as more of a choice for home defense, as I don't plan on getting out and about where all the madness would be happening...

a pistol and carbine in the same caliber are more than enough to handle "unrest".   If by unrest you mean idiots blocking the road and burning down buildings and looting and so on, like those morons last month were doing.     Odds are you won't be shooting even if people are so-called "rioting" **  but simply stuck in traffic for a long, long, long time and while you might *want* to shoot your way clear you probably shouldn't....

 

 

*** contrary to popular and media's misuse, a riot would be an armed conflict between authorities and civilians (usually, or police and prisoners, etc).   We have not had many; and when we do, the police usually win.  Get away from it is your best strategy.  When the cops are using rubber bullets and tear gas, they are not yet serious about it.

The problem is, you may not know what kind of unrest you are getting into. During the LA Riots, some were pulled from their vehicles and assaulted. If you know a riot is going on and you have a loved one in the midst (non involved) you may have to forcibly extract them if this type of riot is going on. Of course if you have no business in the area then turn around or go around.

In MO, it seems that it was in nighttime that all the violence happened so anyone with business in the area had plenty of time to leave before then. If you are caught in the mallei because of error in judgment (they wont hurt me) or were part of the festivities then you are part of the problem to begin with.

I'd say you don't want to be doubling back if you can help it. One way or the other will likely be jammed up. If you're serious about this, get some radios for communication (phones may be cut) and have a meeting place on the way to your destination (which may be one or the other of your places of work depending on circumstances). Things would be likely to get worse over time so you want to make every minute of the safest and easiest travel times count. And pack a good pair of shoes and a map, you may be walking.

Right, the LA riots were actually riots.   And I doubt I could count on one hand the # of those in the USA in my lifetime with fingers left over.  If someone is trying to pull you out of your car, as I said, a handgun & carbine is sufficient if you can't just roll over em in your car.  

 

Forcible extraction is something else.  You get some  friends and hardware first.   Getting clear vs going in with a goal in mind are totally different tactics.

Most so called riots today are people against the Police or people focused on looting stores and not on people trying not to get involved. Like Jonnin stated. Real riots have not been around for a long time and in a real riot they are avoidable in most cases as long as you remain out of the inner cities. A high capacity Glock 9mm and a JR using same magazines should get you home safely. Also considering the area in which you and wife are employed would not really be a place a riot would be likely to break out............jmho

Your mistake is thinking you have to rescue your wife. Far better to train and arm her so she is not some fairy princess waiting for you, her good knight, to save her As fat as weapon choices go for SHTF, I would say a TAVOR for easy in/out of vehicles. And there is always the standby - Saiga 12
