Falcon coated bullets

Recommended Posts

Took my first batch of loads out yesterday and found out some interesting findings....

Bullets are .401-180 gr red coated

Very accurate and no leading at 1375 FPS in Glock 20 with KKM barrel

Some rounds don't seem to fully seat in the barrel, so slide will not fully go into battery and reset trigger  with the KKM barrel

Also in my 29SF the same thing happens using my Lone Wolf Barrel, didn't have the stock barrels with me.

Maybe the red coating makes them a little too large  a diameter to fully seat in my aftermarket barrels? I'm not sure, anybody got any feedback or help? Other than my findings this is the only issue and otherwise love them!

I would measure the od of the round right above the crimp line to get a true bullet diameter reading..

I think ya could get a pretty good reading with a dial caliper; but a thousands reading micrometer would be better...

I bet the throats are tight in the aftermarket barrels and ya might have to garnet paper the od of the bullet down a bit to make 'em work reliably....

I would venture to guess they'll feed in an OEM Glock barrel.

In my experience with Lone Wolf and KKM they have extremely tight tolerances. Besides, there should not be a need for an aftermarket barrel using the coated bullets.

We use OEM Glock barrels with our powder coated bullets without concern and find them very reliable.

An option is a shorter OAL...but beware of spiking pressures.

I'd just be safe and try the OEM's first.  :2cents:

What he said ^^

Edit:  Also, measure your bullets.  Make sure that they are actually .401".

Also again, I have used some bullets meant for .40 Short&Wimpy that I could not use in my 10mm because they were too long/had the wrong shape.  Seating them to where the case mouth was behind the ogive made them too long for the magazine and probably too long for the throat.

I know of a few people that have issues with falcons coated bullets using kkm. They will work great in a factory barrel but from time to time for whatever reason a few out of the batch won't go in to battery using the kkm barrel. Dropping your oal could fix the issue though.
