Great pics! I've thought this before after seeing some of your posted pictures, but I have a friend that you bear a great resemblance to. Not really important, just a random thought from a troubled mind.

And none of my business really, but after a couple of postings about your health; I must say you look "Maharvolous" today. I really hope you feel as good a sit looked like.

Depends, I met plenty of fair skinned Afghans whose father was Russian. Matter of fact the majority of fair skinned Afghans were red headed.

Today was a decent day for me.

But even so my injuries are not easily seen and very few people have seen me at my worst. I do walk with a limp and guard myself when I can if I am not using my crutches. And as much as they help me I also hate them. Most days, even bad ones, I can stand for 15-20 minutes at a time but regardless of whether it is a good or a bad day I spend most days in bed because both standing and sitting is very bothersome for me. Good days are 16-18 hours in bed and bad days are 22+ hours, makes getting anything done a pretty big deal. Sometimes I am working on or cleaning guns in bed because I would fall if I were to be on my feet any longer. And even though I sometimes think she doesn't like it she doesn't complain about it. I fall a few times a week and since I took three nasty spills, one right after the other, last fall it seems like it is much worse and that I never get time to heal between falls. And that is why my projects take so much longer now than before. About the time I get everything setup and get into it I am starting to really feel it so it is off to bed.

My wife helps me get dressed, helps me bathe and does most things I took for granted before but are unable to do now. Trust me when I say I wish she did not need to help me but without her I am not sure what I would do. She ties my shoes and basically needs to do everything around the house which really bothers me. I have lost control of a lot of functions below the waist. I piss myself daily, most times it is just a little bit because I think I am done then 30 seconds after I have buttoned up my bladder finishes emptying. Other times it feels like I haven't pissed in a week and even though my bladder is empty it feels like it isn't, that is the worst feeling. Or the sudden "I got to take a crap right now" feeling. Literally 30 seconds between the feeling I have to go and going. That is another BIG reason I stay home because I would hate to crap myself in the car.

Like I have said before, to a lot of people I may not seem that bad but I will only go out, or meet people, during my good days. During the bad days I do nothing other than lay in bed. It sucks but it is how I have to deal with it. Riding in a vehicle, because I am sitting, is also very painful for me and ensures the next day or two will be spent in bed so I avoid it if possible. I get out of the house about once every 7-10 days.

I realized a long time ago it could be a lot worst. I could be dead or be burned to a point where I would be unable to do anything, including typing on here. I know people who are a lot worse off than I am so I try not to complain too much about my situation because compared to some mine is like having a splinter or a hangnail.

But yeah, getting ready and taking these pictures was fun for me. I enjoyed it and thought you guys might get a kick out of it as well.

In Kabul you'll see redheaded and blond, blue eyed afghans with light skin quite often. Going out east near Herat is so close to Iran that many of the folks there are of Persian descent, and many have very light skin.

I'm a little darker skinned, but not as nearly as dark as most Arabs or Pashtuns, and I have been mistaken as an Afghan interpreter (when I have a beard) by Afghans more times than I can count.

John Walker Lindh (May he be raped to death by rhinos) was a white boy from California, and after a beard and a tan he fit right in with Taliban militia.

That's an awesome set of pictures. When I retired from the Navy, myself and a friend rode our motorcycles back here to TN from San Diego. My ridding partner is a retired Marine. He retired from The Corps in 73, so you will understand his road name Gramps. Well is a Vietnam combat Vet. One of the first things I had to do when we got here was mow the yard. Gramps sat on the porch drinking his coffee while I mowed. I have a rice hat from Vietnam, so while I was mowing the side yard out of sight, I grabbed an SKS and slung it across my back and wore the rice hat as I road out to mow the front yard. You had never seen an old man laugh so hard. His comment after laughing was "In my two tours I never saw such a fat VC". LOL I wish photos had been taken.

I've got the same hat...really! Dad went to Pakistan years ago and got me one as a souvenir.

I am slightly darker than you so I don't wear it out and about here in east TN.

Keeping you in my prayers! Chronic pain and the feeling of being trapped sucks and will challenge your positive attitude. Keep up the good fight and keep smiling! Edited by Gotthegoods

Fun pics! Sorry to hear you are dealing with health issues. I can't imagine going through that every day, I am currently bed ridden for a while and can't imagine being like this all the time. You are a stronger man than I. I get some flare ups about 1-2 times a year and I am in bed for 2-3 days and then on crutches for about another 2 weeks. I don't know your specifics but something that has worked for me and cut the pain is the icy hot TENS units. My PT actually told me to get it ( I think he was tired of seeing me) and it has helped pain management. It has been nice to not have to go in for PT everyday to get the TENS. It is not as strong as the pros use but way more powerful than I expected. I will pray you have more good than bad days and maybe we can get more dress up days from you.

PS. Olive still talks about the day we came to see you. She was only 1 but remembers it like it was yesterday.

Should all of us AK owners dress up and make a group photo, or would that arouse suspicion of this forum? I have a few trench coats and KGB pins laying around somewhere. Also had a few gas masks if we want to grab that post apocalyptic air.
