Trip to Smyrna, GA

Drove down to Smyrna recently with my brother. I have a Gen 3 G30 and he just purchased a Gen 4 G30. We had the techs install night sights and while they were doing it, they completely gutted the frame and installed new trigger bar, connector, trigger spring, complete breakdown and inspection, new recoil spring, and test fire. The sights and install were $57. My brother's gun was purchased a week ago and they already were able to upgrade to newer parts on his. The trigger crucifix is a -3. Never heard of that part number revision. I was surprised to see a -2 on my bro's when he bought his because I had already had the -1- on mine when I had a frame upgrade a few years ago.
I am completely amazed at the service and they told us we could come back occasionally and have everything inspected and upgraded again if necessary. Way to go Glock!

I really must plan a trip and decide on what  to take. I guess they'd limit you on the number of guns you could bring in?

While we were waiting, I saw them bring three out to a guy having worked on all of them. Not really sure if there's a limit. Call them. They're really helpful on the phone.

Did you make an appointment with them first or just drive down and walk in?

No appointment. To have the sites put on they said to arrive no later than 1600. People were walking in the whole time we were there. As the techs would come out someone would ask a question and it was like having a five or ten minute class each time. I learned so much!

Sounds like they used better than stock parts for some reason when they tore you down
Makes me wonder.....

Nice job

I don't think they're any better than stock. They're constantly updating the parts and tweaking things. They are ready to upgrade internals any time anyone drops by for them. I would imagine the new part numbers I have are going to show up in production models if they haven't already.

I will be in the Smyrna area the first part of December..  I called Glock this morning to see if the cost of the night sights had changed and it is still $57.  The tech told me to bring my magazines along also.  I told them I had several and the tech said bring them all so I will..... :)

I was gonna go on my vacation but I couldn't think up another reason to go down there other than that. Just toooooo far.

Why, you've got Turner Field, the Coca-Cola bottling plant, the, uh, the airport.  (Futurama reference from one of my favorite episodes).

Seriously, reading through the Atlanta tourism guides are heart breaking.  The stuff they focus on as "attractions" are laughable.  I was born there, and I thought I would never want to leave when I was a kid, but now I look at it as giant obstacle on my way to other places.  There are few cool things that you can only see in the Atlanta area, like Stone Mountain or Walking Dead filming locations.  I once heard it described as an island of civilization in a sea of rednecks, but I would rather be in the sea now.

There is Zoo Atlanta and the Georgia Aquarium.  The Aquarium goes to great lengths to keep out guns and other weapons.  The Zoo, courtesy of HB60, now has to allow licensed carry on their premises.

Personally, I think the only thing the Georgia Aquarium has going for it is the whale sharks, which you can't see anywhere else in America.  I thought it was cool when I went there after hours (for free) to an event, but I would probably not pay to go back (costs too much).

Atlanta (as in, the general area and its people, not necessarily just the government) has an inferiority complex, and tries to out do other places because of it.  Examples:  the Olympics (criticized for excessive commercialism and a weird mascot).   Also, the Aquarium (as in, Hey!  We're landlocked! Let's put in a giant saltwater aquarium to outshine all those other aquariums!  We'll have whale sharks and beluga whales.  Meanwhile, two whale sharks and two belugas die.  Also, they've decided to "spice up" the Aquarium with a theatrical dolphin show, you know, just because).

Thanks for the update on that, dawgdoc. I thought I remembered my wife going to the Aquarium some years ago while there. (Couldn't ask her last night when this topic came up.)

Probably the Zoo and a return trip to the Coca Cola would interest her in the spring.

And of course, a little side jaunt for me.

I made the trip to Smyrna, Georgia yesterday (Sunday) and went to the Glock HQ this morning.  I was the first customer and drew a very nice younger armour.  I bought 2 sets of night sights for my pistols and took all my magazines.  The armour replaced several parts in my pistols and the springs and followers in the magazines that were in good shape and traded out the older magazines for new ones.  You stop at the gate/guard house and they secure the weapons making sure non of the pistols and magazines have ammo then send you approximately 150 yards or so to another building where the armour will be waiting.  As mentioned the hours are 8 AM to 4 PM.  The night sights are $57 and guaranteed for 15 years with no labor for install.  If the sights fail to illuminate they will replace the sights. It cost me $122.XX for 2 sets of night sights installed and the rest was FREE....

Security is tight at Glock but the guards and armour are very professional and make you feel welcome.  The armour took about 45 minutes to complete what I needed.  It was warm and sunny in Smyrna. Chattanooga was approximately 66 degrees when I passed thru around noon but the temperature dropped to 34 degrees at Paducah and there was ice on the electric lines and timber near Wickliffe.  I was fortunate that the roads weren't slick from Paducah home.

I would recommend using the service if you are in the area.  I was very pleased and felt it was worth the trip and expense since I spent Saturday night in Manchester, Tn. attending my great grandson's 1st birthday party.... :)
