Primer on "Hi-Tek" bullet coatings....

Dear fellow reloaders....

It's about time for me to load up some practice ammo for my357  sig, 40 s&w, and 10mm glocks... I keep noticing that many bullet casters are coating bullets with some sort of high tec coating that looks like paint to me... How about  " splainin this phenomenon to me", as the great Ricky Ricardo would say...

Here are the questions:

1... does it work...?

2... how does it work...?

3... will these bullets shoot in stock glock polyagonal rifled barrels without buildup...?

4....whose bullets do ya like the best....?

Thanks in advance...

Powder Coat.

Do a search for Dolomites thread.

1) Yes

2) Very well, the main reason we started PCing our bullets was to be able to shoot lead bullets out of stock Glock barrels.

3) We've shot at least 5000 rounds through a 26, 19, 17, and 34 with all stock barrels with no build up.

4) I cast the bullets. I use a Lee .38 spc mold (I forget exactly which one it is, .358/124 I think) the bullets drop at .359, after PC they're around .362 and we size them down to .358. If you buy bullets make sure you remove the lube.

If you go to castboolits and to the coating and alternatives  thread there are about 600 threads with replies, that cover all the different ways to shake and bake your lead bullets. A lot of interesting reading.

Thanks for the replies... While i'm thinkin.... Does it help the flat nose bullets on the feed ramps... I really like the truncated cone and wide flat nose stuff; but have been hesitant to load up a bunch of them due to the potential for feeding problems....

Thanks again...

These are the bullets we're using, they're from a Lee 6 cavity .358/125 grain mold. No feeding issues.image_zps1900a6db.jpg

Thanks Brazil.... The bullets looks good and i would bet the coating is pretty slick and hard.... I just ordered some 180 grain 10mm from Bayou Bullets... I've got the brass, dies, and primers ready.... I'll load up about 50 or so and see how they feed...

Thanks a bunch...

Brasil is right on the money. We've gone through at least 5000 rounds and have great results. We even push some of the 9mm rounds to 1300+ fps and still no issues.

Here's a link to Dolomite's excellent thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/73808-powder-coating-the-super-duper-easy-way/

Red...I like your reversed HBWC. I used to load .38's in such a manner "back in the day". How is your inflight stability on these?

I might try and work up some for Brasil and myself (but in .38).

I have only shot them at close range, 25 yards, no sign of a key hole, shot from a Ruger SBH.
