Can't believe I'm jealous of Mississippi

Both of those states also have an income tax. I'd rather pay a sales tax. No way I could buy enough stuff to make up for an income tax.

These sales tax holidays crack me up. It’s 7 to 10% off. I hear Genesis Diamonds using it as a year round marketing tool now.

Don’t get me wrong any discount is good, but you can get more than 10% by shopping dealers. 650% increase on that day? I wonder how they worked those numbers. biggrin.gif

Apparently they have a sales tax holiday on guns, ammo, and archery supplies this weekend. Why can't TN have something like that?

The article mentions that SC has one too and gun sales went up 650% in a single day.

An easy cure for your jealousy, go hang out in Mississippi for a few weeks, you won't care if they have a free guns weekend after that ...

Unlike a real sales tax holiday, Genesis is still gotta pony up sales tax to the state, so the discount comes from their margins.

Since the sales tax holiday is almost a 10% discount from the state, you can still shop around anyway and expect to save even more. The retailer will still have wiggle room, since this savings isn't coming out of their margins.

For the retailer, it's a no brainer, sell as much as 6.5 times as much product on a sales tax holiday as on a normal weekend and it's a scheduled event that they can prepare for. Plus, since the customer is getting a discount from the state, further discounts from the retailer means less wasted time with tire-kickers and more time calling in background checks.

We do't have an income tax here in TN. I don't want to be them, I just want TN to have what they have :D.
