The joys of road rage.

Me and my son were going down hwy 11 heading to work yesterday and my check engine light started flashing and I suddenly had a massive misfire issue (coil wire burned) and the truck lost power and started making all sorts of fun movements and noise lol. I had only about a 2 mile to go and there was not really anywhere to pull fully off the road so I just chugged along at 35 to 40 in a 45 zone and a nice vehicle suddenly decided he needed to be a foot off my bumper and laying down on the horn for about 100 yards till we reached the red light. I got in the turn lane to get off the main road and take a side street. The guy gets in the lane behind me and starts leaning out his window screaming and gesturing and threatening me a good ass whippen and to get out of my truck loud enough the car next to us was looking back at him fearfully. I spent more time watching the mirrors then the road at the light. He was grabbing the steering wheel and shaking his entire vehicle at one point. Light turns green and he's all over the lane behind me yelling and screaming, granted I wasn't at full power but I wasn't going slow. I could hear him screaming to pull over so he could whip my ass. I made a turn off into work about 50 feet later and he's screaming out the window again as I'm slowing down to turn then speeds off. Dang some people are stressed out easy. Edited by Tobashadow

I do get a kick out of people losing their minds in my rearview. Riding my bumper and screaming out their window like an ahole will not motivate me to break the law and drive at an unsafe speed. It will, however, motivate me to drive a whole lot slower.

I had one not too long ago do this on a 35 mph side road. Nowhere to pull off because of no shoulder and a steel ditch. They were practically touching my bumper even though I was going 5 over the speed limit. I just stopped right there. If someone is in that big a hurry they can go around, but I'm not gonna have someone ram my vehicle while I'm moving. Of course, this guy was so close to me that when I stopped he didn't have enough room to get around without having to back up. Made for a whole scene. Funny that he would have gotten to where he was going faster if he just acted like a human being rather than a child throwing a tantrum.

I'll have to add two notes, number one I failed, yes I failed big time and held my head in shame. I had a family member with me and i wasn't carrying yesterday due to me not trusting my door locks after one broke and I had fixed it the previous week. Number two, my son pointed out that during all his rage and leaning half way out the window (no joke both arms and chest) at the red light to tell me atleast four times to get out of my car, he never seemed to have the urge to open his own door. I wasn't getting out but it was quite funny after wards, like here hold me back so I don't kick his ass. Strange people Edited by Tobashadow

I have to admit it sometimes gets to me when people in front of me drive under the speed limit or keep swerving due to being on the phone, but never to the point of trying to ram them or even show my displeasure. I guess the 4 years spent in Japan driving in that traffic taught me patience.

Now those that get in a left lane and crowd into the right at a begining of a long traffic line as if their time was more important than the rest of us...I do have my wicked thoughts.

I just posted this exact same thing in another thread, but by golly it just fits in both spots.

I had a road rage incident once, told the dispatcher that I was stopping my car because I had reached my destination, that I was armed, and as I had a small child with me, I was in fear for her life.

They had a cruiser there before I found a parking spot.

The gist of it was some cat talking on his phone, I pass him in a passing lane. Not a two lane, a three lane truck lane passing lane. Ten minutes later he decides he wants to help push me down the road for a good ten miles. So when he finally got the chance to pass me, I gave him a little toot of my horn, as he nearly hit me, the car next to us and me again as he cut back over. He gunned it down the road, pulled over and stood on the side of the road like an angry baboon who had stepped on a beehive. So my daughter and I continued on our way. He then decided to follow me, weaving in and out of traffic, laying on the horn and screaming words that my daughter only hears when her mother is playing video games.

I did the logical thing and grabbed one of my cells and called the police. Told them where I was, what I was driving, where he was, what he was driving and where I was going. Like I mentioned above, I informed them I was armed, and sure enough, there was a cruiser there waiting when we got there. The guy went speeding off and well, I never heard anything about it again.

I used to be a bit of a lead footed speed demon. Since I have spent the last two months driving a big truck, I feel like I am absolutely flying when I go driving in my Xterra. Then I look down and realize I am only doing 35mph.  Yep, I'm a slow poke now.

I hate idiots talking on their phones and driving, because they aren't focused on driving. Some moron turned right on me coming from the opposite direction yesterday when I had the left turn arrow, but that didn't matter to him as he almost hit me. Then he started flipping me off at the next light. And some people say that no one should have a gun. This imbecile shouldn't have a vehicle.

I hate people on the phone too. Anyone who rides a motorcycle knows what I am talking about. If someone almost kills me while I am on my bike, there is a better than 95% they have their cell phone plastered to the side of their face, or worse yet, are texting while driving down the interstate. It should be legal to mount photon torpedoes to the front of your vehicle for these people.

Yep.  In my younger days I learned that carbon/kevlar reinforced riding gloves do a fairly good job of protecting one's hand from high speed impact with car mirrors.

I try to never be on my phone while I'm driving. If an important call comes in I'll get it but try to get off again as soon as I can. For me it's not entirely a safety issue for me as I'm quite capable of walking and chewing gum, or driving and talking as the case may be. For me it's the same reason I won't typically drive after having a beer unless I wait several hours, in the event of an accident, I don't want anything held against me that likely didn't contribute significantly to said accident just because they are known factors in other accidents. I'm honestly fairly contemptuous of those who can't drive and talk, I don't get what the issue is. (I know the issues, just don't understand how they're problems for some people)

Texting is a whole different ball game though IMO. I've never been fond of my bike riding buddies doling out street justice on side mirrors, but for texting dip sticks, I could look the other way.

I like going fast, but I am not a dick about it. I always try to keep at least a full car length at all times. I have no sympathy for people who text and drive and are swerving all over the place due to being on a phone. As far as road rage goes, I quite caring. If someone hits me due to their incompetence, I will just have insurance get me a new ride. No reason to get mad.

For the record, she wasn't on the phone at all.  She just tried to occupy the same space as me by changing lanes while slowing for a traffic light.  I was literally right beside her door.  My peg/boot left a mark in her door as she pushed me over.  It's a good thing there's space between lanes for a motorcycle as a big Ford truck was in the other lane.  When I inquired as to her ability to see, she gave me the finger.

If you someday find yourself driving your little babies around in your car, people who drive like lunatics will piss you off. A lot.

If someone is tailgating me, I slow down and let them pass. They get ugly about it, it is no big deal. They however threaten me, it might be a big deal if i was infear for my life or my family's life.

Now since i'm working 10 hours a day, 4 days a week, I don't encounter too many road ragers. Usually follow fellow employees to work, and then home. No problems.

But get me in Atlanta, where they can't drive and i'll wish i stayed home.

Then I will let a small wave of anger overcome me. But keeping a positive outlook is crucial. I used to get bothered by the smallest of things specially when driving. Now, who cares! You cant change people, only the way we interact with them.

I had one similar happen to me outside Memphis but the guy cut me off. I was speeding right where it drops from 65 to 55 and I pulled over and got out of truck to take my whopping and the guy pulled over to yelling. When I got out and stood by truck and he saw my 6'2" and 250 lbs he took off. I passed him about a mile down the road stopped in traffic and he flashes what looked like a sheriffs badge. I just smiled and waved. JTM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

One car length at 40-70 mph IS tailgating.  The safe following distance at 70 MPH is more like 4 seconds than one car length.  You have to consider your reaction time and your braking distance.  But, heck, I can't get people to drive 1 car length behind me in parking lots.  :D

I know, but when you are trying to pass someone and they wont move over ( you know them), I try to not ride their bumper. So thats why I said one care length at least. Usually is three.

Stupid drivers in Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville are about the same as stupid drivers in Atlanta!  I deal with them every week, some are stupid without the help of their cell phones.

Most big cities i try to stay out of if i can help it. ( there are idiotic drivers even way out in the boonies). But stupid drivers are everywhere. There's no avoiding them no matter where we go. Heck, there are idiotic walkers on the sidewalks. lol
