9-year-old girl accidentally kills instructor with Uzi

Let me say this, if I was going to teach any person how to shoot a fully automatic I would do it in steps.

1.  Basic Range safety.  Master it.

2.  Understanding of the gun, all control points.

3.  Finally loading the first round.  Yes 1 round.

4.  Fire 1 round.

repeat 3 and 4 several times over.

5 Load 2 rounds,

6. fire 2 rounds

repeat several times.

Then so on to burst of 3 rounds.

then based on that, might move up, but this would not be in one day.

I would start them of with an AR and be right next to them. Not AS much muzzle rise and if it did get out of control you could grab the fore end. Not much to grab on an uzi.

i would start them off with a single shot 22 to age 12 from age 9 and then she would only move up if she learned it all. Boys the same way. 22 single shot rifle and maybe a 4.10 shotgun in single shot.............jmho

I think that was to much gun on full auto,  not too mention I think she was too young.  He should have been instructing her over her right shoulder.  I'm thinkin if it was a 9 mm that he should have whinned her up in shots.....letting her feel the kick.....plus warning her to hold and grip it heavy.  seems to me he stood by her left side too close to front.......all in all.........too young!!

That's horrible. Think of the guilt that poor child will have to live with for the rest of her life. It was an accident but one that should never have happened.

I guess times are different, by 10 I was shooting .270's and 30 30s.  But dad did start me with .22's about 6-9 and a .410 at 10.

Terrible tragedy. Bad choices cost an instructor his life and who knows what impact it will have on the little girl.

Start them out shooting alot of .22's first to learn the basics of shooting.

A full-auto Uzi is just too much for a 9 year old girl. Stupid tragic accident and in no way is the little girl to blame for anything. I hope they keep telling her that over and over so she believes it but i'm afraid she's scarred for life from this.

[/quote] Agreed. I should have worded it differently. I meant when you are going to intruduce them to a full auto. Not their first gun.

there is nothing wrong with that, but it is not appropriate for *all* kids.   Case by case is the key to children, they vary too much in maturity, physical builds, and more to generalize.   And NO kid needs a full auto and esp not an uzi which are notorious for being a little difficult to control.  A full auto 22 rifle would be fine.  Or mounted AR that can't be moved in an unsafe direction.

Not gonna armchair quarterback this one because the entire situation is just completely absurd.

Just sorry the child has to live with that now

“Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can't help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death, there is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.” Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Edited by Chucktshoes

My first gun I shot was my 12 gauge, I skipped the .22. I bet I was under 10. I remember after shooting bird shot all day my grandfather asked if I wanted to shoot a slug, I shot 1 and was done.

You know an 8 year old boy was killed several years ago shooting the same gun in Massachusetts at a machine gun shoot. But instead of it climbing up towards and instructor, the stock slid down towards the ground and the gun came straight back and shot him in the head Edited by Lumber_Jack

The first gun I ever shot holding it completely on my own is my Mossberg 500 .410 I was 5-6 y.o. and I still have it. The first time I shot something full auto I was about 12 it was one of the ww2 9mm machine gun that the magazine loads in the side. I knew the firearms safety rules very well and got a little instruction on the specific firearm and then they turned me loose. I shot several short bursts then held it for the last 5-6 rounds in the magazine. I will always remember that day.
