Anyone have any experience with these rifles? I have a matching number one that my father bought in the 90's that I've never shot. The bore along with everything else is in great condition but I have not had the head space checked. I'd like to shoot it but I've read a lot of stuff from only use nato rounds to any 308 ammo is fine.

It's such a good looking little rifle I hate to just let it sit around.

Any commercial 308 ammunition should be safe to fire in it, assuming it is in good working order.

Ammunition producers load factory ammo for the "weakest link" of guns produced to fire it.

It is built on a large ring 98 Mauser action, which is a strong action. and is the basis for a myriad of custom rifles, many of which are chambered in 308 Winchester.

According to Wikipedia both cartridges have the same max pressure of 60,191psi.

Thanks. I was surprised to see what they sell for now. I googled them and saw them from 350 to 450. Wish he had bought several more!
I told a guy earlier today that I thought they sold for 150 to 200. The one I have is in a lot better shape than the ones I saw online. It's dated to 1951. He said he bought it at an auction for $50 or less.

I need to find someone to check the headspace. I'd like to take a deer with it.

I took it to my local gun shop today and the gunsmith looked it over. He was pretty amazed at the condition. I grabbed a box of 7.62 x 51 Winchester white box 147 FMJ off the shelf and he sent one down range and I'm happy to say he has all his digits left!

The more I hold it the more I like it.
