New Taurus PT111 Millenium G2

I got a new pistol in a trade last night.  It's a NIB Taurus PT111 Millennium G2.  It came with the box, paperwork, two 12 round magazines, keys for the safety lock (which also doubles as a sight adjustment tool), a box of 115gr ball and one box of frangible ammunition, 2 custom leather holsters (one IWB and one belt).

It has a black polymer frame with a matte black finished slide.  The fit and finish were top notch.  I don't think there is a shiarp edge or corner anywhere on it!  The grip is very positve and seemed as if it was made for my hand.  I really liked it! It has the industry standard 3 Dot sights, which are adjustable for both elevation and left and right. There a loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide. It also has a frame mounted safety located on the left side (ala the 1911A1).  I found it easy to use.

I took it to the range this afternoon and shot a couple of boxes through it.  The pistol performed flawlessly and was accurate .  At 15 yards, I was able to keep it in 3 to 4 inch groups.  I found this to more than acceptable from a 3.2 inch barrel, in a major caliber.  Muzzle flip was less than my Glock 17.  Accurate double taps were easy to achieve with it.

This is my first Taurus and it might not be my last!  I was totally impressed with it's performace!  I still want to put a couple of hundred more rounds down range with it, but for this outing, I was most impressed and at this point, I would recommend this pistol for anyone looking for a compact 9mm!  I was looking at the prices for this pistol.  Bud's has them starting at $302!  I think that's a great deal!!!

Taurus autos are hit or miss(pt92 is almost always a hit though). If you get a good one there nothing better though.

Lessons to be learned! Thanks for posting the Rossi photos.

PS: My PT111 has performed flawlessly as well.

Never had a Rossi ..................but it looks like a real adventure.

I've never had a Rossi either, but I have family and friends that do.  All of their revolvers have run flawlessly (as a revolver should).  The triggers always seemed a bit rough and the fit and finish was head and shoulders below a Smith & Wesson or a Ruger. But they are no where near those in price either.

However, this is a thread about the Taurus PT111 Millennium G2, not a Rossi Revolver, even though both companies are owned by Braztech. :)

Wife has a PT-111 that's 100% reliable and fits her hands properly so she's well satisfied with it. As to Rossi revolvers...those made in the 1970's were overall good with occasional clunkers. Now? I have similar feelings on Taurus wheel guns of late vintage.

I have pretty much given up on Taurus. I have a Rossi 871 revolver that had to go back to Taurus four times for lockup issues and they finally replaced the cylinder, crane, transfer bar, hammer, basically rebuilt the whole thing and did a trigger job to boot. Now it is as good as a Smith that you get out of the box. Should have made it that good in the first place.

Taurus Semi's are mostly junk, hit or miss, the 92/99/100/101 series and their other Beretta clones are usually good, but the remainder of their semi's are not worth the time. Looks like you got one of the rare good Millenniums. A good friend of mine had one in .45 and the framed cracked after a couple of years and he shot only standard ball and standard pressure hollow points from it.

Taurus revolvers from the 70's-early 2000's were excellent. Now, their quality control is horrible. I was at Academy prior to last Christmas looking at the 44 Mag revolver they got on sale and they went thru over a dozen from the safe, 30% of them wouldn't even lock up the cylinder would freely spin with the cylinder closed in battery, they had metal shavings in the barrels and chambers, one was locked up out of the box, it was a mess. One even had a sharp metal burr on the muzzle that stood up a half inch that was so strong you could poke holes in thick cardboard with it and it would not bend.

That ended it for me and Taurus there. I have one of the early Taurus Judges and its pristine in manufacturing compared to what they are putting out now

I too have the Taurus PT111 G2. GREAT pistol! Bought it last year at Academy in Mt. Juliet. I have shot factory ammo and my reloads. No problem at all. I just hope they come out with a PT145 G2. I want a compact carry pistol in 45ACP. gearyr

I may be the exception to the rule, but I picked up a used Taurus PT1911 a few months ago at a local pawn shop. Cleaned and lubed it good and it has run flawlessly with my 200 gr LSWCs reloads. This is my second Taurus PT1911 and I have had nothing but good experiences with them both.

Congrats to the OP on the new gun.

I have said this here in the past and still stand by it. I have owned many Taurus products in the last 10/15 years and not had a single issue with any of them.

Still own 2 PT1911s-- a 38Super and a 45, as well as a PT111, a 145Pro, and a couple of revolvers just to keep it even.

http://www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?id=758&category=Pistol
Buds Gun Shop has them for $411 (cash)! Its a bit bigger and heavier than the PT111, but still holds 12 rounds. Might just have make a drive to Sevierville, in the future! :)
