Relaxin' Jackson No Benning? No care. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I went to Jackson in 2000 despite having an MOS closed to women.  Unless you're in a OSUT MOS, you have a decent chance of going to Fort Jackson. They run basic for about 50% of all new recruits.

We even had a few guys (not infantry) in my basic platoon who were diverted to Jackson, since Benning had too many privates sitting around waiting for a cycle to begin.

I made the comment above as I had thought that Fort Jackson stopped basic many years ago! Am I that far out of the loop?

Like I said, Fort Jackson runs about 50% of all Soldiers through basic training now.  The best chance going elsewhere is if you have a combined basic & AIT like most combat arms do.  Infantry- Benning, Field Artillery- Fort Sill, Engineers- Leonard Wood.

My father was kind of sad when I told him that Fort Dix, NJ was closed down for basic.  That's where he went through in 1965'ish.

It was 32 years ago. No ice cream. It was pie.  *Plus the old school chest holster with a shot out 1911*

I guess...

Yes ....why?

Why? I somehow thought Jackson got whacked many years ago. I haven't heard of anyone going to Jackson in forever. That's why I asked if you were serious. Fort Polk (little Vietnam), Fort McClellan, Fort Benning and Fort Bragg holds a special place in my heart.

Thank You for your service Fitty%!

The need creates the basic locations. I was part of starting a BCT Brigade at Ft Bliss, TX in fall of 1965. We were all sent there from the First Armor Division at Ft. Hood. A bunch of tankers walking around going "Are they crazy?" (We didn't know about WTF) Little did we knowthat the 1st Air Cav would be in Vietnam in a few months and it was on big time. The draft would eventually reach 44,000 a month-200 new companies a month!

*You're

My GT score was a hell of a lot higher than 110. I wasn't a grunt for a lack of options.

Back in 80 close to graduation when I joined, I first wanted my mos. to be a truck driver, I believe 88M but later had it changer to 11Bravo Infantry. I was all set to go to Ft. Jackson in June of 80 but 2 weeks before HS graduation my appendix ruptured and had to delay my basic training date to August 5th. As far as I knew basic was at Ft. Jackson,(tank hill where my dad took his basic training in 43), and AIT was at Benning. After my 5th week in basic the Army decided I along with some others should have been at Benning all along so we were put on a bus and sent to Benning where I was placed in a company only in their 3rd week. Guess who got 2 extra weeks of basic training. Well I would have complained but, well I don't have to explain to any military people here.

I did. I've always had a special place for you guys after being jokingly referred to as "cargo" by one of your colleagues at the air regiment years ago.

Service in the 160th is a calling only a few will answer, for the mission is constantly demanding and hard. And when the impossible has been accomplished, the only reward is another mission that no one else will try. As a member of the Night Stalkers, I am a tested volunteer, seeking only to safeguard the honor and prestige of my country, by serving the elite Special Operations Soldiers of the United States. I pledge to maintain my body, mind and equipment in a constant state of readiness for I am a member of the fastest deployable Task Force in the world - ready to move at a moments notice anytime, anywhere, arriving time on target plus or minus 30 seconds.

I guard my unit's mission with secrecy, for my only true ally is the night and the element of suprise. My manner is that of the Special Operations Quiet Professional, secrecy is a way of life. In battle, I eagerly meet the enemy for I volunteered to be up front where the fighting is hard. I fear no foe's ability, nor underestimate his will to fight.

The mission and my **PRECIOUS CARGO** are my concern. I will never surrender. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Gallantly will I show the world and the elite forces I support that a Night Stalker is a specially selected and well trained soldier. I serve with the memory and pride of those who have gone before me for they loved to fight, fought to win and would rather die than quit.

Night Stalkers Don't Quit!

Well that was my creed for my last 9 years in before being retired......

This whole thread gave me a laugh. I went to basic at Ft Jackson, C-5-1, tank hill. I was part of a package platoon of Parachute Riggers so went directly to Ft Benning for Airborne school right after basic. 21 years later retired here from the 1-160th SOAR (A).
