Looks cool but I guess my first question is why?  Other than cool factor would this serve a purpose? Military/LE/etc?

Not bashing it or the ingenuity either. Just wondering the motivation.

The guy that posted the link said he has shot it and says the recoil is very mild. I hope so since there isn't a recoil pad on the one in the picture.

I've met the guy that owns the company (K&M arms) that will do the actual manufacturing and he is working on his own rendition of the old Bushmaster M17. I'm wondering how similar the two are. I know the M17 also uses a 3 lug bolt.

Hopefully one will make it to the bullpup convention in KY next month. They are supposed to have all kinds of bullpups including full auto Tavors there to shoot.

Yeah. Not buying that.

I regularly shoot .375 H&H Magnum - usually 30 rounds per practice session, so I am by no means averse to heavy recoil. I also own a barrett that weighs in around 30 lbs. I can fire 6 shots out of it before my shoulder is done. The same round out of an 18 lb rifle... no reasonable person can describe that as mild recoil.

Just for reference - http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm

According to this chart (I have no way to verify his stats):

A .308 out of an eight pound rifle is generating somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 foot pounds of recoil energy.

My .375 H&H Mag out of a nine pound rifle generates around 37 foot pounds of recoil energy.

The .50 BMG out of a 30 lb rifle generates 70 foot pounds of recoil... if Chuck Hawks math is right, reducing the rifle weight to 18 lbs should jack the energy up around 112 foot pounds of recoil.

Maybe they've got some innovations that'll cut this back, but "mild"? If that's mild I'd hate to see what they call heavy recoil.

Charles St. George worked at Barrett for a while when I was there. He also designed the Leader rifle quite some time ago.

Looks like this Leader 50 will be at the Bullpup Convention in KY at the end of the month. I will be there already so I'm definitely going to check this out.

We used to shoot my brothers Armalite 50 BMG off the hood of his truck.  Recoil was negligible with a very similar brake on that rifle.  So yeah, if that brakes done right, you could shoot it all day.

I hope to find out soon. I spoke with the designer at the Bullpup Convention last weekend and turns out we both shoot at the same range. We are going to try to get together on a range day.

As I said...IF the math is right. Oleg Volk seems to agree that it's recoil is manageable.

That's a helluva muzzle brake if it can tame a .50 BMG.

I remain skeptical, but I've been known to be wrong every now and again.

It is.

I was with Oleg and observed 6-8 guys shoot it at a range day a while back.

(I was recovering from a retinal tear, so was not shooting anything)

Got to check it out at the Bullpup Convention too.

Not something I would be looking to pick up but it is nice.  The trigger was not that bad either.  It is was not hard to shoulder but not something I would want to hold there for long but much much easier to shoulder then a Barrett M82.  Was also a lot easier to chamber then you would expect.
