Shelf Life of Canned Chicken

Any one know what the average shelf life of Canned Chicken. It was canned used preasure canner, canned according to directions.

As long as the seal is still down it is OK.

I know everybody knows that, as far as taste,

well in a pinch I would eat it 5 years after

canning if the seal is still good.

If it came down to survival, even if it's was somewhat out of date just cook the hell out of it again and it would at least be safe then as far as biological bugs go. Might not taste very good though. As long as I can get food from a store though, I would cook it again and make pet food out of it if it was out of date. I've done that with old deli meat, just cook it up and the dog will love it.  :)

You should probably be rotating your stock. Be canning more chicken and eat the older stuff.


Yes we do rotate for things like chicken and dumplings you just cant beat home grown chicken. We have about 100 chickens about a week away from transitioning free range to freezer and canned meat and chicken stock.
