I've been going on the non-member $15.00/hr/lane deal. Worked out pretty good as I go early and on weekdays. Usually, there were only a couple of people there and Darryl (the range manager) would let me shoot as long as I wanted to. I won a silver membership at our FNRA banquet/auction, so I activated that last Monday. They are also having some shooting competitons that are open to non-members.

The wife and I went right after they got it opened up a few weeks back. It is a nice facility, that is for sure, but they asked us not to take any head shots as it could damage the track the targets travel on. I usually do practice the 2 COM and 1 to head drills so that is an issue for me. I shoot more outside than at an indoor range but when I do go I will have to drive to jackson or brighton so I will probably just go to brighton where I can shoot head shots.

That's normal operating procedure for any indoor range.

Out of the 6-8 indoor ranges that I've shot at, over 3 different states, all of them had stated this due to potentially damaging the track or severing the wire that the targets travel on. They usually tacked on "... and you will be financially responsible for repairs, if damage does occur from such a shot." Pretty sure it was included in the written waiver that you signed to use their facilities.

But anyway... that's par for the course, in my experience, and not something that you should really hold against them. That equipment can get outrageously expensive very quick. Imagine the potential for damage if head shots were allowed, and people who are notgood at aiming (or never handled guns before) started trying to mimic what they see in movies or others on the range doing.

Save the 2/1 drills for tactical classes or shooting outdoors with the proper target mounting or backing. I promise you'll be just as deadly with all COM shots, and not head shots, even at the risk of not looking as cool. Plus, it might help in a future legal situation when the prosecutor asks why you felt the need to shoot someone in the chest and THEN shoot them in the head. Another argument, for another thread.

Use 2 targets, an old one from the bin works nice, have a stapler and staple the new target halfway down or enough where the head on the new target is COM on the old shot up target, then you can aim COM and still do headshots and not be close to the carrier.

That is a good idea, thanks

We use that range. It's in a great location and it's climate controlled, baby! With the cold and coming hot temps in West TN, it's a wonderful resource. I'd recommend it. I'm not affiliated with the store or the range, just a fan of it.

FYI. They now have full autos to rent - 3 options last I saw. Rental is $35/hr, but the ammo will eat a hole in your pocket at 600+ rounds per minute.
