Sign the petition to stop H.R. 5344

I just have one question here, before I consider said Petition; what are us "law biding citizens" going to do "IF" body armor ISN'T banned, and punks, thugs and other less desirables start wearing body armor to do their home invasions, robberies and other thuggish acts with? Body armor going into the hands of everyone that wants it scares the hell out of me!

Aim higher!  Above the protector!  Or invest in 338 Lapua or 50 caliber or other big cals for level III+, otherwise for Level II or less, trusty old 223 will work.

I don't sign whitehouse.gov anything, and I really don't want my IP address showing up there either.  Thanks, but no thanks.

I'll contact my representative to show opposition to HR 5344 but I avoid whitehouse.gov

do you think they pay any attention to these petitions?

The Man always knows what is best for us. ;)

I don't think my elected officials pay much attention to anything other $$$.  I don't have enough money to get their attention.

Do you not think by being a member of this forum or any other firearms related forum that they don't already have your ip address?

Big Bro has more than enough information on me, with or without an ip address.  I don't use whitehouse.gov as I don't see it accomplishing anything.

WH petitions are a waste, they've already shown that you could have double the required signatures and they will ignore or say they "can't change it" and then you will get something that falls in line with the political agenda and they will write a dissertation as a response for a few hundred votes.

contact your reps instead

Dave, don't worry ol buddy, they don't make them in neon colors or with Nike labels. If the body armor doesn't match their shoes, they ain't wearin it even for a robbery. Edited by rugerla1

Aim for the head after knocking them down with a .45 or .357.  Body armor will stop the penetration of the projectile but not the force that propells it.

Do you think banning body armor will prevent criminals from using it?  Home invasions, robberies, and other thuggish acts are already against the law, but does that prevent them from happening?  Heroin and meth are already banned, too.  How's that working out?

The argument that "This product could be misused by criminals so we must ban it" is already employed by those who want more restrictions on gun ownership.  It's disappointing to see that same philosophy at work on this forum.  I hope you'll reconsider your position.

Cheers,

Whisper

The idea that just anyone can't have an M-16, grenades, bazookas, tanks, etc. pisses me off enough. Add to that they want to keep me from having body armor, if I can afford it and choose to buy it, makes me furious. Why we let the actions of the minority criminal element dictate what law abiding citizens can/can't do is crazy IMO. If it's good enough for the military and law enforcement, it should be good enough for me too.

My goodness, this sounds like a talking point straight out of the lefties handbook.

Bloomberg couldn't have said it better.

God knows that if we ban it, a magical force field will prevent a criminal from being able to even hold a "banned" item, right?  Just like the felons that are banned....yet they still manage to get banned items, or the druggies and their drugs, or the restraining order that stops the pissed off boyfriend.

Why don't we just say what is implied but never spoken.  Un-invent whatever it is that people don't like so the "bad guys" can't have it.  Bad guys as in us, the citizen that desires to be a free man.  They don't truly care about the criminal element, because they can already control the criminals.   You can't control someone who is free.

It's just my opinion is all. I don't think body armor needs to be offered for sale to the general public. Maybe after going through a background check, yes. Buying the stuff in the gun department in Walmart or a gun shop no. Just my :2cents: !

I must ask y'all something? Do you now own body armor and wear it 24/7? If not, what's the big deal then? If things are that bad that we/you/us need body armor, we might want sit down and evaluate our lifestyles. All I'm doing is voicing my opinion. It doesn't mean I'm a leftest, commy or anything else. I'm a combat veteran of this great country and am very thankful our enemies at the time didn't have body armor, just like I don't want them having it now.

why can't I own body armor just because I want it and can afford to buy it?

Dave, do you seriously believe that banning things stops people from using them anyway?

I doubt anyone can get this through to you.

What else should be banned?  .45 ACP?   WASR 10's?   AR pistols?  Rocks?  Sharp sticks?

As far as that goes, I bet I could make my own body armor if I wanted to. It wouldn't be as high tech, no kevlar and probably a little heavy but simple metal and padding, enough to stop most defensive handgun rounds. Banning wont stop anyone from obtaining and wearing body armor if they choose to.

That's not the point I'm trying to get across Mike. I get it just fine. The point I'm trying to get across is the thug busting through my back door doesn't need to have access to Body Armor. If you're a law biding citizen as you are, if you want it and can afford it...go for it. Make procedures that have to be followed to get it. Just anyone buying body armor off of ebay and through the mail is what needs banned.

Aim for the head or legs.

Using the same logic, Bloomberg is trying to take our guns by spreading FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt).

It's not, nor is it ever, the item or act that is being banned.  It is the pure fact and principle that another human is trying to control the behavior of another human.

Somethings are warranted, I understand that.  We are a society of laws.  Break the "common sense" laws and face the consequence.  Common sense such as: don't murder, steal, rape, etc.  I'm not talking about all the nonsense laws we have now.  Murder is still plain murder regardless of the means used to in act such murder.  Banning an item to control ones behavior to stop murders is ludicrous.

Your opinion that removing an item from society is going to keep you safer is nothing but feel good fallacy.

From the beginning of time, humans have tried to control others behavior and it DOES NOT WORK.  A person is either going to be a good person or a bad person.  The objects in their life are irrelevant.   A drunk will find a drink, a thief will find his loot and a killer will find his prey no matter what "law" or "ban" is in place.

Well folks, I'd love to continue our little debate, but I need to get going. I'm heading to Nashvegas for tonight's Titan's game. Got to get there early enough to grab a parking spot at 4th and Broadway. Y'all have a blessed day!
