Owl Hollow Closing?

Hi All,

Just heard that Owl Hollow is closing down. This is sad, one less place for people to shoot. It's pretty hard to find a place to shoot a rifle if you live in the city. The TWRA ranges are all that's left. Anyone know of any good ranges that are open to the public or still accepting members?

On Target in Murfreesboro and there is supposedly a new indoor range opening soon in Franklin off Hwy 96.

I think those are pistol ranges, and he is looking for a place to shoot rifles.

(Could be wrong though.)

You can shoot rifles in the right two lanes at On Target. Not ideal...but you still can.

No clue on the lane setups at the new place in Franklin.

I e-mailed Wayne at OHGC to see if this was rumor or truth.

This has been discussed here quite a few times recently. It's true, it is not a rumor. Per an email that was sent out recently:

As previously communicated, the Landowner has informed the OHGC that the Club’s lease agreement will not be renewed when it expires on 12/31/2008, and that the Landowner will operate the range himself beginning 1/1/09. We have approached him several times over the past few months to try to reopen negotiations, and he has consistently confirmed his intent to terminate our lease and run the range himself.

The primary purpose of this Members Meeting is to determine the future of the Owl Hollow Gun Club. Attending members will vote on two options:

OPTION A - DISBAND THE CLUB AND DISSOLVE THE CORPORATION

{portions removed}

OPTION B - CONTINUE THE CLUB WITH A REVISED MISSION

Option B will sustain the Club’s existence and operations into 2009 and beyond. The Club’s mission would change to reflect the landowner’s decision to operate the existing range. The mission, to be determined by the Club’s 2009 members, might include continuing to search for a new range with enhanced shooting facilities, sponsoring shooting events and instructional classes, linking with the NRA to promote shooting competitions or teams, and providing a communications and social network for its members. The Club’s website would continue, as well as communications between and among the Club’s members. Annual dues for 2009 would be reduced to about $10 until a new range is secured. Option B would become effective if it is preferred by a majority of members casting votes, or if Option A (disbanding the Club) receives less than two-thirds of the votes cast.

A meeting is scheduled for OHGC Members *TONIGHT* to discuss this matter and vote upon it. I hope to be able to attend.

Has anyone spoken to the landowner to find out details of how he plans to operate it?

I'm sure someone has but no one is saying. Or at least no one from OHGC is.

Sorry, I missed the previous discussions. I just got an email back from Wayne that said the same.

That is Uselton's and it is open now. Went by at lunch to see what there membership costs are. Cheap they are not. And really not alot of showroom space for a brand new building.

I'll join for Option B if it comes to that.

Then again, I tried to get info by joining their message board last year and nobody seemed to want to help out. Oh well...

I was at the meeting this evening. It was a unanimous vote to keep the club intact. Since there will be no lease for 2009, the club will continue without a range.

It was discussed how the landowner was going to run his gun club. No one knows at this time.

It's good to hear that the club is staying together. Were any leads on new property discussed?

Glad to hear that the club is staying alive. Hope they can find a new range. I wanted to join for a long time but heard about the range closing before I made it to one of the orientation sessions.

I wonder whether the land owner will really open a range or a new subdivision will go up there instead. Hope he keeps the range open, there's too few places to shoot as it is.

There were talks a couple of years ago about a new subdivision going in next door the the range property. That is when the current owner started making the club go through rediculous hoops, probably with the intent to kick the club out one day. That day is now.

Boy you ain't kidding. Memberships only, and those start 199.00/yr and you STILL pay 15.00 for 1 hour of range time..no guests.

To get comp'ed range time you have to pay right at 1500.00 a yr.

...I'll pass thanks:screwy::up::screwy:

Based on the number of customers who seem to keep Franklin Gun Shop in business, people in that area don't seem to mind throwing money out the window.

$1,500 a year? Is that a joke or some sort of sick reality? All I know about this guy is what I have read here, but if these are his going rates then it sounds like he is one giant f'ing moron.

For $1500 a year I could secure a lease to hunt AND shoot on someone's property...

I was also(mis)informed that the old store in Rivergate had the EXACT same kind of range in it. Funny...all I remember him having was a simulator setup in the back.
