For the Falcon coated bullets?

I was told today that I can't use TiteGroup with coated?? The man told me that TG powder had a "way too fast" burn rate for coated??? I just ordered 1500 to give them a try.

I have been shooting MG 115gr RN, FMJ over 4.3gr of TiteGroup

I use 4.5 in my 115gr Plated 9mm at 1020FPS. 

 

Honestly, I cant see a reason why you'd have an issue using TG with coated bullets. I just did some research and there is a lot of people posting about successful combos shooting coated bullets with TG. Little smoke, but works fine. I'd say shoot away.

I shoot TG in all my pistils, with lead I cast and powder coat or tumble lube.

I mean ALL, 25 ACP, .38, 40S&W, 44 mag, and 45 Colt.

Did this guy work in a gun store?  It sounds like the overweight guy with the bad wig that used to blow cigarette smoke in your face at Gun City.  Yes, the one that carried a revolver cross draw in a nylon holster, and was an "expert" and a "national shooting champion".  Yes, the one that intimated that he had won lots of gun fights and had always walked away after smokin' a bunch of bad guys.

 

If I can find the article again, I will post a link.  I read about velocity changes using the same powder charges but going from a cast lubed bullet to one that was powder coated.  In this article, there was an increase in velocity for the PC bullet.  The author suggested this was because of REDUCED friction from a PC bullet over a cast and lubed bullet.

 

As always, start your load at the published minimum and work up gradually until you get the best accuracy.  Let your gun tell you which is the best load.

Friction increases velocity, not reduce it. Friction increases pressures and pressure is what creates the velocity. If you have no pressure then you will have no velocity. So a powder coated bullet is increasing velocity over cast/lubed but not from reduced friction but increased friction. Anyone that loads powder coated bullets and has loaded cast/lubed bullets will tell you there is a lot more friction with the powder coated bullets as you seat then into the case compared to cast/lubed bullets.

 

I would have zero problems shooting coated bullets. I have tested powder coated bullets and they do not lead until they are above 3,200 fps. Anyone who thinks coated bullets not work, when jacketed bullets will, is not familiar with coated bullets. And as always they are probably just parroting what someone else, who doesn't have a clue, said regarding it. Happens a lot, especially in small gun shops. Some of the outrageous claims I have heard from "experts" would astound.

 

I tell people that jacketed load data will work fine for cast bullets. The reason is a cast bullet does have less friction, and less pressures, than a jacketed bullet. Cast bullets, even coated ones, will conform to the throat and bore easier than a jacketed so the pressures will be less. But with that being said there are still enough pressure that push the bullet but it is harder to get into an unsafe area with cast/coated than with jacketed.

We have tested the coating up to 2400 fps with the 30cal rifle bullets with no issues. Use titegroup dude.

 Me think the gentleman you spoke with was getting burn rate and velocity mixed up. One could always drop the charge weight down if they were going to fast for the coating. I like TG and almost every pistol round I have and have shot over the past few years are or have been loaded with it and I have no problems with uncoated cast bullets so you'd definitely be good to go with coated ones.

IN a pinch I'd use it. Coated bullets with TG will be a little smoky,  WST or Ramshot competition will be my first choice.

I use 4.3gr of TG with a 115gr FMJ MG... That is making 130PF

What is a TG starting point for the 115gr Falcon coated ? to make the 130??

Before changing powders try some of what you have on hand. Drop down 10% and work back up to where the combo works for you.

I have run some X-Treme plated HPs 9mms pretty hard with no problem using HS-6.

I spend more time pulling leading out of my Model 29 than I do shooting the darn thing. I even enlist the help of a buddy. He holds the gun while I

pull the brass mesh through the barrel AND I usually have to run 203 new mesh patches down the barrel before it's clean. I always thought it was a necessary 

evil but I plan to try out 500 of these bullets!

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with how this bullet performs. The coating they use is completely different than anything that's on the market today.

Are the Falcons similar in shape/design to a FMJ or Plated? I ordered 1,000 SNS casting 124gr RN and the damn things have an odd profile. I have to seat them around 1.091 to get them to chamber. They have me worried a little, I may wind up trading etc for some plated

Nothing wrong with seating them a little deeper. Just start out load development at the bottom. Powder coated, and probably these, run much cleaner than jacketed or plated bullets.

Dolomite, At the Bottom? What chart do you use for the Falcon?? Do I use "lead" on the charts for the Falcon Coated Bullets???
