When I began looking for my carry guns of choice the first question my buddy put to me was was did I want a semi auto or a wheel gun? I said a semi auto and he said single action or double action. It had been so long since I looked at hand guns I didn't even know they were making DA Semi auto's.  Anyway I said I wanted to check them all out so spent about 3 months shooting all kinds of guns and settled on a double action semi auto Bersa 380 for first gun. Now I have several DA's and a few Single actions and enjoy them both equally at the range but I carry  a DA. What is ya'lls preferences?..................just curious

I like all of 'em, and have at least one of every (common) type of action. I carry striker fired guns, Smith & Wesson's M&Ps and Shield, to be more specific. Very rarely, I carry a Smith 3913 just for kicks.

My main carry guns are Ruger LCR, Glock 30 and FNX-9 in that order. All good guns but I like the LCR best for concealed carry. I'm just an old die hard wheel gun guy and don't like safeties on carry guns.

Striker fired for me. SD9 and M&P Shield.

My Bersa still lives with me because it was my first but I won't carry it due to the thumb safety.

I first wanted and carried a DA/SA gun, well besides the little DAO 380 pocket gun I carried as well.

When I got serious about practicing and training I quickly found and decided I wanted the same trigger pull every time. Went striker fired and never went back.

But I do think shooting a SA handgun is about as sweet as it gets, and that includes a SA/DA.

Love'em all! You can't beat a Browning P35 or a good CZ in my humble opinion.

But for carry...striker is my chosen way to go.

Either striker fired or double action for me. Technically I prefer double action only to keep the trigger pull the same each time. My Shield is my primary carry and is on me about 90% of the time I am out of bed. The other 9% of the time I have a double action revolver on me. Prior to a year ago I was carrying various Glocks and occasionally a DA revolver or keltec/LCP.

As a rule I don't do single action, but I have carried a NAA revolver on a few occasions.

I didn't choose my carry guns by the action.  I have several different guns I like and each has it's advantages under different requirements.  Try different guns and one or several will fit your requirements.

I carry a striker fired semi-auto, but I own several DA/SA semi-autos.

I like the consistency of carrying a striker fired, that is the same on shot one, to shot sixteen.

At the range I like a single action.

But I am a sucker for a single action revolver too.

I've also never really chosen based on the type of action. For me it's ergonomics and conceal-ability that matter most. If I had to pick a favorite though, it's DA/SA with a decocker.

Ruger LCP as primary, because it's small and light enough to conceal easily and carry comfortably in any outfit and any weather, with or without a holster. Thus I always have it with me, and it's a decent stopper with the right loads. Same trigger pull for every shot, and no safeties or manual controls to slow you down or get in the way, or complicate the action. Kahr CW9 as primary when I am dressed properly to conceal it and support the extra weight (usually a belly or IWB belt holster). Same benefits as above but slightly better sights, better trigger, more power, and easier to operate. Taurus total titanium 605 7-shot revolver snub nose 357 as primary or backup when I can carry off body in luggage, bug out bag, man purse, backpack, etc. Super reliable, simple, more power, pleasant to shoot with porting and ribber grips. Good for my companions to use, especially those who have less training and aren't well practiced with semi autos. Sig Sauer p250 or p229 as subs for the Taurus when I know all potential companion shooters are qualified for semi auto use, or on the rare occasion when I can carry with thick duty-quality belt and OWB or IWB holsters. Also my preferred choice for sidearm home defense (as backup to my shotgun and carbine rifle).

Although I have owned and or fired many different handguns in the near 50 years I have shot stuff I had not considered one for carry before 2009. Long story short I chose the XD9sc for personal reasons and I thought I needed a smaller gun to conceal. If I had known then how easy it is to casual conceal with our open carry law I would have picked the service model XD. For times of a bit deeper concealment I have a Kahr CM9, and if I had known then what I know now I may have picked a Kahr CT9 as my first carry gun instead of the XD. I do have to say I am happy with my set up and carry the XD daily in a Raven Concealment Phantom style holster year round and don't have enough motivation change.

Depending on attire I carry a CZ P01 SDP which is da/sa with a decocker or a Kahr MK9. On rare occasions I'll carry my 3" SP101 from Gemini Customs.

Like them all so no preference.

I prefer the semis simply because of capacity, faster reload and ease of carrying mags vs speed loaders/moon clips. Speed strips carry easy but are not particularly speedy

My current preference is striker fired, S&W shield in 9mm. May change to Ruger GP100 357 mag with 3" barrel for winter carry.

Ok and I thank all of you for your replies. The reason for my asking this question was because a buddy of mine said he would never carry a DA/SA because of that first long trigger pull. I carry my Bersa with it is double action mode with hammer down and all safety's in fire mode. That way if I need to react to a situation I can react in one smooth move when I would need to fire first round, Yes it would be a long trigger pull for first round. But if I pull my self defense weapon it will be to most likely defend myself or another person from a life threatening danger and with the rush of adrenalin at that point the long trigger pull will seem like a split second before the gun discharges the first round. How many feel that my thoughts are or may be correct? In a life threatening situation when Adrenalin is rushing through your body will that long trigger pull make a difference at that point is my question? My thought is no but always like to hear other opinions. ..........................

It does the same thing that you're saying, only the trigger pull is the same each time. I'm either a SA pistol or striker pistol carrier. Only difference between the two is I have to manipulate the safety on my 1911, otherwise the trigger pull is consistent each time. That is necessary for accuracy and muscle memory, especially for people who can only make it to the range every once and a while.

My Ruger LCP is a striker pistol which I have as back up to my Bersa on most outings in pocket. The only long pull on the Bersa is the first round and I have become very accustom to that operation since i have 3 of them and go to the range with them often, ammo permitting. I am not crazy about a full striker weapon but most all pocket pistols like the LCP are designed that way....jmho

If you're confident you can get the 1st round on target under duress, I don't see that it's anything other than personal preference.
