Inflatable pontoon tips?

Recommended Posts

Posted
I just purchased an 8 ft inflatable pontoon, just looking for some advice from other people who own them. Things not to do or things to do particularly when it comes to storage? I want to properly maintain it as well as I can, and don't want to mess it up due to improperly storing or packing it up. On Google I saw most people store theirs partially full of sir from a garage rafter or etc.

I don't own one, but I'd suggest leaving it mostly filled up and hanging it up in the garage.  I'd keep it out of the weather, direct sunlight, and really hot temps (like the attic).

UV exposure is the biggest threat to the pontoons themselves.  Keep it out of the sun when you're not using it.  Partially inflated   - enough to keep the shape to avoid creases - will help extend the life as well.

Get a good patch kit.  You hope to never need it, and the boats themselves are really tough these days, but being able to patch your boat in the field can keep an inconvenience from turning into a really bad day.

These sound like some good tips. I have been trying to decide what kind of personal watercraft I want to run float the rivers here in East TN. I first thought about a Tunnel Jon Jet Boat but after looking at the price tags for a good set up I decided that I would look at personal watercraft. I then started looking at fishing kayaks and the frame pontoons. I think for my needs and the benefits for me in rougher water I am going to go with the pontoon. I most likely will wait until the winter or spring to see if I can snag a slightly used one for a good price.
