Friend went and had to get a Boat Registered and upon entering the Scanner went off and he forgot that he had one of those Credit Card knives in his wallet and it was confiscated and he was told he would not get it back!

It was valued at only a few $ but still what if it had been a expensive pocket knife or something?

Go to the Sherriff’s department and ask what authority security has to take the knife and if it was confiscated; where is it now.

It may have been confiscated by legal authority, or it may have just been theft.

In Knox Co, I forgot to take my pepper spray off my key chain once when entering the courthouse.  They kept it until I left, then gave it back.

I'd follow up.  Just on principle.  They shouldn't keep stuff.  Just hold it until you exit the building.  I don't know about the actual law, but why act like the TSA?

And advise your friend to next time go to a county clerk office instead of the courthouse, if possible.  Don't know about his county, but here most of the clerk offices aren't posted and do not have metal detectors.

All I know at the Chatt Courthouse a deputy recognized the Credit card knife on the X-Ray and he knew what it was even though it was in his wallet and the Deputy told him he could not get it back!

I am pissed about that even though it was a cheap $2.00 item but what if somebody forgets to take a key-chain knife ($15.00)off the keychain? People do forget some of these little things!

A few years ago at the Hamilton County Courthouse I remembered once I got inside I had my knife in my pocket, I told the deputy or security, whatever he was I had it. He told me if I left it with them I could not get it back, I walked back to the car to leave it there. TVA security will hold it but give it back when you leave.
