i have a norinco sks i was wondering how to tell when it was made? i found that the 3 chinese marks means it was made form 1940-1980. it has a threaded barrel(not pinned) so i think that means it is older. it also has a triangle with something in that. the serial number is 009*** does anyone have any info or know where i can get some on this? and if it is older does that mean it is worth more or less?

There should be a two digit number before the full serial number, like: 14-000xxx. (1970, for example)

To find out the date of mfg add 1956 (1957 would have a 01 prefix)... If there is no two digit prefix it was either made in 1956 or it is a sporter model specifically made for the U.S. market in the mid 1990's shortly before they were banned.

The easiest way to tell if it's a sporter or a 1956 dated gun is by condition. Does it look a little ratty? it's probably a 1956. Also a threaded barrel would indicate a 1956 vintage gun if no ser# prefix is present.

The Chinese made tens of millions of these.

Being older in and of itself does not have much impact on value for a Chinese SKS. Condition, originiality and rare features have the most influence.
