Official TGO Shooting Match #1 (August 2014)

Summary: This will be a fun, friendly shooting competition between TGO Members. A good chance to practice, compare your shooting to others, maybe get some tips on technique, and most importantly, get out to the range and have fun!

Rules: Choose the class, or classes, you want to enter, and print the targets from the appropriate links. (To decide on your class, check the class description below)

*Target must be printed on a standard 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper.
*On top of Target print your TGO screen name, firearm and caliber.
*One Target per shooter, per class. You may participate in as many classes as you want.

*Once complete, take a picture, and post here.
*Winners will be judged by a scoring system unique to each individual class, this will be explained further in the “Classes” Section.
*Any shooter I deem to be cheating will be disqualified, and publicly shamed. Keep it clean.

Classes: Below are the classes, a description of the target, and the method of scoring.

*Handgun Class â€“ This class is for all traditional handguns. (No rifle caliber handguns, i.e. – AR and AK pistols)

Handgun Distance: 5 yards
Handgun Target:

This will be a standard ring target. The idea is to perform a “self-defense” style shoot. No precise aiming, or taking your time. Hold gun at your side, or at a low ready position (pursuant to your local range rules) and look down at the ground. When ready, quickly raise weapon and eyes at the same time and fire a double tap into the target, obviously aiming for the center ring. Lower weapon and perform the same drill again. 2 Double tap sets (4 shots – no extras for misses) per target. 3 points for each shot IN the center ring, 2 points for each shot in white ring, 1 point for shots in the outer black ring. Maximum of 12 points.

*Restricted Rifle Class â€“ This class is for all rifles with iron sights or 1X Optics. (No magnification)

Restricted Rifle Distance: 50 yards
Restricted Rifle Target:

This will be a target with 15 small diamonds on it. 1 shot per diamond, no extra shots for misses. Designed to be shot from a sitting rest or prone. Please notate if you shoot standing unsupported on your target. 2 points for round inside of the diamond, 1 point for round in border of diamond. Maximum of 30 points.

*Unlimited Rifle Class â€“ This class is for all rifles with magnifying optics.

Unlimited Rifle Distance: 100 yards
Unlimited Rifle Target:

This time will be a target with 5 medium stars on it. 2 rounds per star, no extra shots for misses. Designed to be shot from a sitting rest or prone. Please notate if you shoot standing unsupported on your target. 2 points for round inside of the white middle, 1 point for round in the black border. Maximum 20 points.

Timing: This Match will have from Friday August 1st until the end of the day Monday, August 25th (25 Aug 2014 23:59)  to shoot and post your targets. That leaves time for tallying entries and scores.

Shooting:
At this point in time this Match is open to any and all firearms that are LEGAL and relatively safe to fire. Iron sights, optics, semi-automatic, bolt action, lever action, any caliber you want, etc. Just remember to notate what you shoot on the top of your target.

Prizes: That’s right, a PRIZE. 1st place in each class will receive a prize! As promised, the 1st place winner from each class will get BACON!

Lastly, please remember to have fun, be safe, responsible, and a good example to those around you. Feel free to mention TGO, and The Match, and encourage others to join up and participate.

Disclaimer: Neither I, personally, TGO as an entity, nor any of its affiliates, members, or staff are responsible for damage or injury occurring during The Match. Firearms are to be used at your own risk.

My computer is being screwy when I try to print these targets... are they all 8 1/2 x 11"?

Just want to be sure I'm not printing them too large or too small.

Yeah, they do print slightly different sizes, but as long as you print them on standard 8.5 x 11 paper they should be the same as everyone elses.

I will have better prepared targets for the next one.

I'll shoot this after our IDPA match Saturday. Any TGO members that shoot the regular match can stick around and we can shoot this.

My goodness! This isn't easy. I've gotten in a lot of practice today, however. Thanks for posting.

Mechanic_X has already destroyed this one, but I thought you all could laugh at it anyway.

Here's my first effort at the 100 yard target.

As for the 50 yard target, I'm still working on it. I can barely see the tiny diamonds. You're welcome to laugh, giggle, or whatever at my feeble attempts here, but if you do, I ask that you post a picture of what a target should look like.

I give on the 50 yard target. Everywhere I've had my eyes checked, I'm told better than 20/20, but I simply can't see the tiny diamonds form that far.

Let's see em guys!

I may try this towards the end of the time period if I can get to the range. Two questions:

1. Is warming up allowed before hand? (don't see why not)

2. If we shoot all rounds through the center of the first star, do we get bonus baco...points?

This is the first thing competitive in nature I've ever entered that required firing a gun. I definitely suck at it, but it has piqued my interest. I hope you get another one together at some point.
