I picked up a Savage 93 new from my local dealer this afternoon. I'll give it a try in a few days and let you know how it turns out. It looks o.k. for a cheap gun.
I have had two 93's, one before the accu-trigger and now one with it. I have a weaver rimfire scope on mine and it's a tack driver. No squirrel within 75 yards wants to poke his head out when that gun is in the woods. I replaced the plastic trigger guard with a metal one. Shoots Winchester Super X the best. Edit to add: if you find Fiocchi 40gr stuff my Savage shoots it great. Otherwise, stick with Winchester Super X 40gr either HP or solids. Neither of mine have never shot CCI or Federal well. Never shot the 50 or 30 grain stuff well either. Edited by whiskey

I bought a Marlin XT-22m last Dec.. I love it! First time to the range, a buddy had his brand new Savage out also. (He bought the Savage when he heard I bought the Marlin)...There were 4 of us shooting, the other 3 are very experienced with firearms. All I heard while they shot the Savage was a lot of cussing. There was a problem with the mags, when the bolt was opened to load the chamber, all rounds came flying out and onto the table.

The Marlin shot flawless.

Best part, the gun was $129 at Walmart in Whitehouse. I tried to buy it from a family run gun shop, but they were not interested in helping me with the purchase. A second gunshop, up in Springfield, actually suggested the Marlin over the Savage in 22mag. He said if I wanted a 17HMR, he would def go Savage though. They could order the Marlin at $169. Either way, your out the door under $200.

Good to know, Angus. I have several 22 rifles, but no 22mag. I hope to remedy that soon.

I hope you already have ammo for it. I'm glad I did!

Yes, I started buying it when I first saw the PMR30 ads. Wish I could get it that cheap again.

I purchased a Zastava in Florida before I moved up here.  It's a sweet little gun and the trigger can be "tweaked".  It's a bit rough compared to a CZ but,

CZ has used the Zastava factory in the past or manufacturing "out sourcing" so aside from the cosmetics, you'd be getting a damn good rifle.

Not a rifle in the truest sense of the word but I am waiting patiently for the Keltec CMR 30.  If/when it ever releases it will be my first 22 Mag.

As I've had difficulity finding 22 magnum, I'd get a rifle for 22 LR.  I've had a Ruger 10/22 for many years and it's been reliable and fun to shoot.  I recently got a Henry 22 and it has been difficult not to go thru my supply of 22 ammo.
