Thinking about a 22 magnum rifle.....tell me about yours

There are a lot of options.  Are you into wood or synthetic?  Classic or more tactitool and price range?  My favorite two are my Browning A-bolt and CZ 452 Full Stock.  I think the magnum round is probably one of the most underrated calibers out there.   I have a cheap Savage 93r17 which is a 17hmr, but I wouldn't mind having a 22 mag version of it either.

There's a remington 597 in .22mag on the classifieds. I have a 597 in .22LR and think that its a great gun, if I had an interest in the caliber I'd look into one.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone bad mouth any CZ rifles, I'd think about that for a bolt action. I like a traditional looking rifle as much or more than anything tacticool, but the EBRs are a lot of fun too.

I don't own one (do own a .17 HMR), but I have almost bought a Henry in 22 mag more than once. Love those guns. NOBODY has ever been able to make a semiauto work in that caliber.

I've been thinking about one as well.  Trying to decide between a bolt gun or a lever gun.  I hope some more people chime in with their experiences.

I have a Marlin 25MN, it is a very accurate little bolt action. Haven't got around to scoping it yet, but in the next week or so it will be wearin a Nikon 3x9x40 Rimfire. Then I'll really be able to find out what she'll do. Good luck in your search, and let us know what you come up with.

Would also like to have one of the octagon barreled ones Henry offers.

The list never stops, lol.

Here's a pic. of mine with is twin a 25N. The 25n is very accurate, so pretty sure the 25MN will be as wellBoth of these were made in '95.

Here is a picture of my Marlin 25MN with a Tasco 3 x 12 x 40 on it and it's a tack driver at 50 yards and would probably be at longer distances but that is what it is sighted for at present. Great shooting gun for sure.

I picked up a CZ 455FS LR at Outpost Armory about a 2 weeks ago and it was discounted about 94 dollars from retail price.
The sale is still going on and they had a great selection. It's a beautiful rifle and shoots great. I would defiantly
recommend one. The 455 model has interchangeable barrels 22lr/22mag/17hmr

Keltec is to be coming out with a rifle version of their semi auto 22mag pistol. I've seen photos, it's mainly a tactical looking outfit.

If you can find a one in good shape I think these are still one of Browning best looking bolt guns.  This is from when checkering was good.  This is my A-Bolt.

I really like the .22WMR cartridge.  I have a couple of rifles in .22 Magnum, one that I bought and one that I inherited.

The one that I bought is a Marlin 925M.  When I bought it at Sportsman's Warehouse in Chattanooga a couple of years back I went ahead and bought a scope at the same time and had them mount it and rough-sight it in.  It is a fairly inexpensive Simmons scope but the model of the scope is actually called ".22 Mag" and it has worked well, for me although I have only shot paper and tin cans with the rifle, so far.  Just FYI, I tested a few ammo types out of it and did see some difference in accuracy, group size and so on.  Not huge differences, necessarily, but they were there.  FWIW, mine like Remington's Accu-tip best for accuracy/group size.

Now for something completely different - and a lot of fun.  That would be the .22WMR rifle I inherited from my grandfather.  It is a Rossi pump-action and is at least as much fun to shoot as my Henry .22LR.  Personally, I wouldn't put a scope on that one but the irons are good enough that I can fairly consistently pick off spent 20 gauge hulls at 15 to 20 yards (maybe further but that is as far as I have tried at this point.)  It is fairly light, compact and handy.  You have to operate the pump pretty aggressively or it won't always load properly but I think that is a break-in issue that I believe will smooth out with time.  I honestly don't think my grandfather ever fired that rifle as it still had the 'safety warning' tag hanging from the trigger guard when I got it.  Another 'neat' thing about that one is that it is designed to be easily taken down.  I don't know if you are a fan of the movie Zombieland or not but I am almost certain that the rifle used by the younger sister character is a Rossi pump .22Mag like mine, just to give an idea of what they look like, etc..

I also have a Marlin 925m. It's very accurate. The stock trigger is not much but a spring change fixes that and makes it a joy to shoot.

I got a Henry several months ago and it's been fun to shoot.  The only thing preventing it getting more range time is the availability of .22 ammo.

I know this thread is about the 22WMR, which I'm sure is a great shooter; after all it is a 22; so any good quality manufacturer's bolt gun chambered for it should work very well, indeed...

Having said that; my only experience with small 22's outside of long rifle is with the 22 hornet... In my misspent youth, I had a buddy who loved Anchultz rifles... He had a box magazine 22 hornet sporter with iron sights (...peep...) that wuz the greatest small caliber rifle i ever shot...period... Anytime, anyplace, anywhere; including my beloved 222 Remington...

If i wuz lookin for a relatively cheap to shoot 22; i would look at a hornet or one of its improved variants... Out to 200 yards they are great... No noise to speak of, no recoil, and deadly accurate...

Ya can reload the hornet easily and tailor the loads to your specific rifle... You can't do that with store bought ammo...

I built a 10/22 in .22WMR from an 80% receiver. It runs like a top. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Interesting.  I think I am going to do that.  I will get a couple of buddy's to order them too and we can split the cost of the jig and other items need to align everything.  This will make for a fun and good build/accuracy test against each other.  We are always looking for ways to have a good time competing.  What a better way than to each build our own rifles from an 80% receiver.

I've got the jig/tooling for a .22LR build if y'all decide to go that route. I used the shop drawings on the WMR, but the jig definitely simplified it. You're just down the street, so you're welcome to borrow it.

With a suppressed 1:9 barrel for Aguila SSS rounds and a trigger/bolt by Tony Kidd, the .22LR is probably my favorite rifle.  It's just plain fun to shoot.

I have a complete KIDD Supergrade in 22lr, so I would probably go with the magnum.  I have a stock 10/22 as well, so this would just be something a little different and fun to do as a project.  Thanks for the offer.  I may still take you up on it.  The other guys may want to go with a 22lr.  I will let you know.

Probably not what you're looking for and definitely not the manliest .22 wmr out there, but this little gun is fun to shoot. It's surprisingly accurate too, hit a paper plate at 100 yds right out of the box without optics.
