Massachusetts police chiefs rally for right to control long-gun permits

"It's all about public safety"

BS. It is all about public control  . The police tend to see all of us as criminals. I have had a real eye opener on this. I have always had a deep respect for my local police, but had a shock the other day. While shopping, I overheard make some remarks from a high ranking LEO about blacks and other minorities (I am white)  that would have been more appropriate coming from a KKK clansman. He was very vitriolic and earnest. He also let it be known that anybody who did not follow his agenda was just as bad and worthy of punishment. Too much "Us and Them" mindset floating around in law enforcement right now. With the Federal Government facilitating arming them as paramilitary formations, I no longer look at them the same as I have in my 71 year life.

A Police Chief, appointed not elected, has no voice in how I exercise my Constitutional rights. I am not a Liberal, but being a Conservative does not mean I believe in a police state.

It's not healthy for our Country for the police or citizens to have a "Us and Them" mindset.  A small percentage of government, law enforcement and citizens seem to be unable to understand Constitutional and Citizenship Rights and responsibilities.  When we become enemies of each other, we're going to face serious consequences.

Fear of something comes from not understanding it, mostly, as someone more clever than I once put it.

These guys see guns only in the hands of evil people.  They were raised to believe guns are evil.  They simply do not understand the concept of guns in the hands of lawful citizens because the concept is 100% opposite of all their training, experience, and education.   They have been taught and reinforced that armed = criminal if not part of the military (police included).   Thus a police state was born out of fear...  order and law at the price of freedom.

Massachusetts, That says alot right there. New England has had strict gun control laws for generations, even though they are in the US they still have a different mindset and culture than the south or west. It's drilled into their brains at an early age that average citizens don't have the right to keep and bear arms, it's considered more of a privige to most there that needs to be heavely regulated. The police, more so than Joe Smo from Massachusetts believe in strict regulations of firearms. Sad because Massachusetts is pretty much the HQ of where we decided to challenge and fight the British because of their strict regulations and taxes. Now Massachusetts isn't much different than the British were then, ristricting rights and taxing the crap out of everyone. Just ask the head Massachusetts democrat for the little people, multi-millionair John Kerry who has to park his million dollar yacht in Virgina because Massachusetts taxes are too high for him to park it there.

So glad that just a small part of the police feel that way.

More of them feel that way in New England and heavy liberal areas like California. Maybe many regular street cops feel a little different, i've always said just from observing years of news and interviews with big city police chiefs, most are puppets or toadies of the mayor and the administration of that city and will tow the official line the city administration tells them to. I'm reminded of Ronal Surpass, seemed like he had a string on his back so Bredesen and Dean could move his mouth and say what the mayor wanted him to. I doubt that most metro LEO's had the same opinion as the police chief about certain issues.
