Do You Carry A Kel-Tec P-11?

Do you CC a Kel-Tec P-11? If so, what holster do you use or recommend? I have a plastic Fobus OWB that I really liked, but it completely killed the original bluing, and the re-bluing I had done by a gunsmith friend, by rubbing off large areas. I have a cheap leather Don Hume IWB that I'm currently using, but it is really too tight of a fit, making it very difficult to draw and re-holster. It also doesn't cover as much of the pistol as I want, so I'm having issues with surface rust, no matter how much I clean and oil it.

 

I'm on a very, very, tight, shoe-string budget, so $20-$30 would really be my max, the cheaper the better. That rules out customs. I can do kydex myself, but I'm afraid it'll kill the finish too, and I'm still working out the kinks. I'd prefer something leather, no color preference. I'm starting to prefer 3:30-4:00 IWB over 3:00 OWB like the Fobus. I'd also like something with a metal clip rather than a belt loop.

 

I almost always wear untucked t-shirts, on the longer side but some are shorter, with a wife-beater underneath, cargo shorts in summer, jeans, khakis, and cargos in the winter. I never wear a tucked-in shirt, but occasionally a button up shirt. I also wear a 2" wide nylon webbing type belt, so it's a really thin profile. I'm rather lazy about concealing, as well, unless I'm in certain places, :whistle: :shhh:. If any of that makes a difference.

Check out the DeSantis Sof-Tuck, DeSantis Pro Stealth and the DeSantis Insider. I've seen the Insider and Sof-Tuck on Amazon for $17-18 recently. The Pro Stealth was the first one I tried for my XD-S...in fact, I'm wearing it today. It's pretty comfy, being nylon and all. Plus it's real easy on the gun's finish.

I had one for a while (well, p-40 variety) and you probably won't like this but I carried it without a holster, in a pocket.   Does not get any cheaper than this, and I personally had every confidence that a trigger I can barely pull on purpose is not gonna get pulled by accident.   The ability to do this comfortably depends a lot on your pants though. 

 

You should be able to make a serviceable pocket holster from something for free or exceedingly cheap.   Making something that properly carries IWB takes a bit more skill.  However KT guns have an optional belt clip you can buy (I think its cheap?) ...  I do not know how, or if, that might assist in carrying.   A lot of folks use home-made holsters... a rivet gun & some scrap leather or vinyl ....   even know one guy that made one from plastic jugs.  

 

Spray paint, if done carefully, might be enough to stop the rust.  Its just the barrel, right?  Everything else nearly is plastic?  Like anything it will wear off after a while if you shoot it a lot, but carrying it, that might do.

 

These are shoestring budge ideas as requested...  there are better ways if you throw money at the problem.

I used to carry a P11 for several years in a Crossbreed Supertuck. Supertucks are really nice, but expensive....and if you perspire a lot, the moisture WILL get to your gun.

I don't carry a P11 anymore, but I do carry a comparably sized 9mm in a leather/kydex holster made by Gavin at www.firearmholster.com, which I HIGHLY recommend.

They're a bit over your budget at $49, but not by much, and I think it would fit the bill of what you're looking for perfectly.

They are similar in design the Supertuck, but are convertible from IWB to OWB, simply by removing the belt clips.

They have a leather backing which is against your gun in the front, then on the back, the leather is covered by a "rubberized" material that is 100% moisture proof,

and then that is covered with a layer of soft, thin fleece for comfort against your skin.

I sweat a lot in the summer, and not one bit of moisture has EVER reached my gun,

and I've been wearing mine for over a year now every single day, and it still looks like new.

This guy has come up with a fantastic design and he will even do some custom "tweaks" to suit your individual needs.

He stands behind every holster he sells, and he will make you happy no matter what it takes.

 

I don't mean this to sound like an advertisement, but I just want you and everyone here to know how awesome these holsters really are.

Yeah, I've tried pocket carry and I have the belt clip that I used "permanent", outdoor, weather-proof, 25lbs rated, double-sided tape to mount further forward so the gun rode a little higher. The pocket carry was nice, but I have a lot that I have to throw in my pockets already. The pocket clip was super handy, but in the summer the surface rust from sweat was a lot worse and that stained my wife-beater/t-shirt. The rust was along the slide on the side that was up against me. I too fully trust the 30lbs trigger pull not to go off accidently.

 

I've also made a Remora style holster (IWB w/out clips held in by grippy materials) using various types of mouse pads, I may revisit that idea. I've also been thinking of trying a lined kydex holster, but I'm not sure how to heat and press it with the lining glued/attached without affecting it, or how to line it after it's been formed.

 

I'm either going to have my gunsmith friend parkerize the slide, or I'll do it myself. I also have other forced patinas I can try that will help stave off the rust. I have tried duracoat, but it flaked off after three weeks like cheap rattle can paint. I have seriously, seriously, been debating about taping off the extractor and coating it with several light coats of spray-on Plasti-Dip.

Belt clip for me works good. You could get the slide hard chromed to take care of the rust.

For sweat protection check out N82 Tactical, for budget High Noon has a series of non molded leather holsters. I own and use both so feel confident giving them a plug.
