TN HCP Turn-around

Recommended Posts

Finally talked Dad into getting his TN HCP by buying him the class for Father's day.  He took the class on the 6th, filled out the paperwork on the 7th and got his HCP yesterday (the 21st) in the mail!

Seemed like a pretty speedy turn-around time to me!  Thought I'd share.

You couldn't get a license in NY to even keep your handgun at home?  I thought those were pretty much shall issue everywhere in New York and a few places hassle people on getting carry licenses?

I submitted my renewal paperwork in early August.  Got the confirmation letter that the paperwork had been received a week later.  Still do not have the renewed permit.  It expires at the end of August.  I have no i dea what takes so long for a renewal when the new applications are getting approved very quickly.

I'll give them a call next week.

Congratulations to your Father. I took the HCP class last week and did the DMV yesterday and the fingerprints today. I hope mine comes in 14 days but the lady at the DMV said 4 to 6 weeks for me to get it in the mail.

I'll give them a call next week.

Welp, called October 6th.  It was mailed out less than a week after I sent the renewal paperwork and payment in, but I never received the permit.  I was asked to fax some information to the HCP office, so I did so.

I still did not have a replacement Monday, so I called and talked to someone who was not very helpful.  Said they had no record of my fax, and seemed generally unwilling to help or expedite the process seeing as my permit expires at the end of this month.

Today I called back, got someone different who was very helpful, acknowledged that they had indeed received my fax on Oct 6, printed my info and handed the info to her supervisor personally.  She called me back a couple hours later to say that my permit was in the queue to be printed, which is the last step before being mailed.  Should be here in 7-14 days.  VERY helpful.  Wanted to call me tomorrow as well.

What I learned is that in the HCP office, if you get someone who isn't helpful, call back later.   You'll get someone else hopefully, and hopefully that person will be helpful.

I had issues getting mine several years ago and dealt with Lisa McKnight, both by email and phone. She is by far the most helpful and courteous person to deal with and even answered 2 of my emails on a Saturday.

But I believe as you do: if you get an unfriendly simply call back. Often times it will make the difference you need in getting the permit faster.

While some at DPS are typical government workers, Lisa McKnight and others have greatly improved the HCP turn-around time.

From information from some of our recent class graduates, it seems if they submitted their applications online and then took the class, if there are no questionable issues on their applications (which may take additional time to research) it takes an average of two weeks to receive their permits in the mail following submission of their fingerprints.  If they didn't submit online, but went through the old manual system, it takes about 30 days to get it.

Welp, my replacement arrived yesterday.  I'm glad I got the right person.  I believe the person I talked to was named Fontania, so if you have to call, ask for her.

I finished my HCP class on 10/10/2014, did my DMV deal on 10/15-16/2014 and the fingerprints on 10/16-17/2014. I got an email from Lisa Knight on 10/30/2014 that my HCP was approved and I would receive it within 10 working days. On 11/13/2014 it was in my mailbox then in my wallet with my DL. I think this is an awesome turn-around time frame.

Sent my renewal off two weeks ago and got my temporary "letter" yesterday.
Quicker than I thought. Will see when how fast they are with the hard copy.

My new renewed HCP came today.

Roughly a total of 4 weeks with a  Hoilday in there.

Who ever processed mine must be one that leans to the right.  :usa:
