Davidson County CLEO

Do you know if he is gun friendly to law abiding taxpayers?

I do and he is NOT. That does not mean he won't sign, but I would try other avenues.

I don't have any personal experience with him. From what I've heard, he will sign your Form 4 -- at least for suppressors. If you're looking for full-auto or DD, I dunno. "He's not from around here" so I wouldn't expect him to be super gun-friendly. Hopefully, I'm wrong about that!

I looked into getting a can a little while back. I'm still waiting to clear up some funds to make it happen.

Short barrel shotgun first form 4, and if it is still legal (after the elections) I will SBS my PS90, then get a can to fit both my AR15 and PS90, I will go see him when my paperwork arrives, at worse case he will say no,

I don't know his personal views, but in the last couple of years Serpas has signed 3 Form 1's for me. Quick turnaround, no problems. TN has a law that requires him to sign if you're a law abiding citizen.

You can also get your fingerprint cards completed down the hall from his office for a small fee.

Thats what I was looking for, thank you very much. how long did it take to get his signature?

I usually received them in the mail in about a week.

I dropped them off with his admin assistant all filled out in duplicate. The only info required is his signature, title, & address. I also leave a stamped self-addressed envelope with the forms. He signs the forms and his admin assistant drops them in the mail to me. Alternately you could go back and pick them up I guess. The mail worked fine for me and unless you work downtown it's a pain going to his office.

TN is a "shall sign" state. He has 15 or 30 day to find a reason not to sign off for you. But if he dosent find a reason why you shouldnt have a NFA item then he has to sign. If you dont have anything on your record he will sign for you. I know 2 guys who he signed for, no problem. TN is one of the most NFA friendly states in America by the way.

What he said. That is exactly what I have always done and he has signed 3 full-autos for me since he arrived in Nashville. Very pleasant, helpful service from his assistant, btw.

The worst part is parking, walking, and getting in the building.

Chief of Police (currently Ronal Serpas) is the CLEO in Nashville. Its not the Sheriff like in most of TN.

Actually the Sheriff of Davidson Co retains all LE powers that any other sheriff would (per state law)

The metro charter makes it so the PD as all the LE duties and the sheriff handles the Jail/Detention Side of it.

The Sheriff Dept does have a SORT team that did (1998-2001 under Ray) perform tactics with Metro PD and they were also called up to do recovery of escaped inmates. (with full LE powers)

Not sure about the extent of the DCSD LE authority but I do know a few years back all their cars had the Blue Lights removed because of some political dispute the way I remember it. I definitely have seen one try to pull someone over with the white lights but the driver just ignored the deputy. Im not so sure I would pull over for one either but I definitely would pull over for other Counties Sheriffs.

I've had paperwork for two cans signed by Davidson County CLEO. I'm hoping it will be the same turnout for an upcoming SBR and two more cans. I usually go by and pick the paperwork up as I am impatient. I also get the fingerprint cards done there while I'm at it.

In Davidson County, do you typically send him the paperwork by mail and then follow up (within the prescribed amount of time he has to sign)?  Or do you drop your paperwork off in person and then go back and pick it up?

Thanks.

I don't understand this whole signature thing. Does the CLEO do another background check on you or something? How do they judge you otherwise?

If you pass a background check already for gun, I don't get why we need to go through this BS.

Looking to get a can for my Mega Maten 308 build, so any help is appreciated.
