It appears traffic is up in the area around here. So yesterday I was leaving later than usual for work so I was home until about 10:00 a.m. when I hear Buster growling barking and running full speed towards the gate. At 140 pounds I never have known him to move that fast. Turns out that someone thought it would be a good idea to open the front gate which is clearly posted and start heading towards the house looked like a couple of 20 somethings had decided to rethink that idea real fast. In Indiana no trespassing meant just that. Is. Something different here?

Nope, but too many people today don't respect anything or anyone else.  Sounds like they needed a good dose of reality.  Maybe next time they won't be so fast to ignore a sign.

Unfortunately, the concept of private property, posted or not; doesn't seem to enter the minds of todays population.

I've had people walking in my back yard at times. Complete strangers. And then have them seem like I was from another planet when I would ask them what they were doing there and then to leave.

Kids especially. I've had to escort some off for riding bikes and even a small go-cart looking thing in my yard.

As you might guess, I'm not the most popular person in the neighborhood with some of the kids. Edited by hipower

I've had a stranger walk into my house, a really bad idea for several reasons.  I now keep all my doors locked all of the time.

Perhaps not but guessing you would be the first person there helping if a child was in need,

No trespassing to some means "I have stuff I dont want you to see", so it sparks their brain into wanting to see what you have.

Sad that people today dont respect signs.

We have "Beware of Dogs" sign at the end of the drive, you can not see the house from the road,

we get zero unannounced lookers.

I have next door neighbors who have no respect for anyone else's property. The wife actually made the statement once that she thought that you had easement five feet beyond your property line.

But, then, they're from New York, so there's that.  :dunno:

Thanks for the thought. But I'd be second...my wife would beat me every time.

"Beware of Dog" may be a more effective sign. May also help in court when Buster shows up on the front porch with an arm in his mouth. :)

Have one of those up too right next to the no trespassing sign. Buster is really quite friendly. We just finished fencing the front in before he just had a small section behind the house until I could tie the fence together. Now he has about 3 acres where he can run yet still be on our property. Slowly I am working on getting the rest of the back fenced in but it is going to be a fall project now just a bit too hot to be sinking post.

My guess is he is just claiming it as his and letting others that show up unannounced and decide the closed gate does not apply to them that they just made a poor choice. Edited by wcd
