Where to go shoot?

I've only taken the mandatory classes, and the safety class for overbore.

I'd like to take some long range classes, though.

They were having a long range class when I was out there which i'd be interested in depending on how it is structured but carbine oriented classes are more of what I have in mind this year. If you should happen to sign up and take one please let me know how it goes or better yet give a report of your experiences.

How busy does Strategic Edge get during the week and weekend?

I'm sure it's less of an issue there than at other ranges...but I'll only go to the public ranges during the week where they are mostly abandoned because of idiotic shooters like JohnC mentioned.  Getting muzzle swept by a new shooter (any shooter for that matter) with a loaded rifle while I'm downrange is NOT ok with me.

I've only been once and that was not this past Sat. but the Sat. before and the weather was perfect. Got there at 2:30-3:00 and there was one couple on the rifle range and between then and 8:30 (or whenever it was to dark to see) I don't remember there ever being more than one other shooter or couple besides us there at any given time. One guy used the carbine type rifle lane which is completely separate for about 30min and I never did see anyone use the pistol range (which had plenty of steel and barricades). Like I mentioned above, They were holding a long range class over a bean field back behind/beside the actual range area and there seemed to be 7-8 cars back there that I could see. Maybe some of those guys would have normally been up on the rifle range? IDK but overcrowding was definitely not an issue for us that day.

I've been a few times since it first opened and I've never seen it swamped. Always been able to find a lane to shoot on the rifle and steel pistol ranges. :)

A friend of mine shooting my AR50 at Terry's. Cant really see clearly all the way to the 300 because of the snow really.

Just got back from Terry Walden's.  My early evening plans got canceled, so I put together a quick range bag and drove down there on a whim.  I was the only person on any of the ranges shooting, which was awesome.  While I could see Terry's getting a little crowded during peak hours, for the price and area to shoot, you can't go wrong.  The two pistol ranges looked nice (I only shot my AR) when I went to check them out as well.

Overall, I'd give Terry Walden's my recommendation if you are within what you consider reasonable driving distance and want to send some rounds downrange.  As with all things, those you share the range with account for a large part of the experience, so your mileage may vary.
