Advice on slowing down speeders in residential neighborhood?

I had the same issue with our newspaper delivery dude... He would FLY through the neighborhood doing atleast 50 (Posted 30) at 4:30am!!!

I get ready to leave at that time every day and have the dogs in the front yard so they can get some "relief".

I yelled at this guy, waved my hands and everything, he never even looked my way.

We have a very dilligent PD in Bartlett and I placed a call with the Sgt. for Traffic Enforcement and filed a complaint with the time and location.

The next morning I saw him pulled over by one of Bartlett's Finest at precicely the time I reported as I was leaving the neighborhood.

I beeped my horn as I drove by and waved at the officer with thumbs up!

No problems since...

It used to be a 20mph speed limit. My neighbors and I all took turns calling to complain about speeders. I think the cops got tired of us and now the speed limit is 30 with two stop signs that are ignored as often as not. Those that do stop like to peel out. As inconvenient as it would be, I wouldn't cry if they closed off one end entirely so that we weren't a shortcut anymore.

Nope, we're actually down in Smyrna. It sounds like this is a pretty widespread problem though. :-\

They increased it from 20mph to 30mph and put in two stop signs, one in each direction to "interrupt the flow of traffic." Now instead of going 30 in a 20 they go 40 in a 30 on a residential side street that happens to have connected and turned into a very convenient shortcut.

To be fair, I've had very positive experiences with the police in Lavergne. Even the guy who gave me a ticket because he didn't think I stopped long enough before turning right on a red. And yeah, I know they don't control the speed limits. I just feel like griping.

Tungsten, have you ever videoed the traffic? I know it sounds goofy, but then bring the video with your complaints to the monthly city meeting and see if that helps.

I know back in 1974 or 1975 my dad did the drastic thing and backed his car, an old Plymouth station wagon, out of the driveway infront of some speeders. We had 3 major industrial plants at the end of our street, and the other end was a bar. The damn street was only 1/4 mile long.
