Finally starting to build the CMT 308 - next colors added.

It seems like it has taken forever to get to this part. I finally began painting it today even though the rail won't be here until tomorrow. Once the rail gets here it will get a good base coat and then then everything will be mocked up for the next couple of coats of paint. This is my first time to paint one. I've been a bit apprehensive about painting it but it was time to take the plunge. I will be working out of town most of the week so it will probably be next weekend before the next coats go on with an eye on completing the build the following weekend.

the only really exciting part so far is realizing well after the first round of paint that I had grabbed the wrong scope to paint. That is ok because in the end the rifle that this scope is going on will be painted a camo scheme as well.

No real pattern. I am not detail oriented enough for that. More a series of complimentary colors to help just break up the definition of the rifle

Good thing is, that's easy, hard to mess up. I'll echo MacGyver and can't wait to see it complete!

Rattle can?

 

It is all I use anymore. After a couple of weeks it is pretty durable and nearly impossible to remove after a year or two. If I can I normally bake the parts I paint and it makes it durable from the start. I really like it because it is super easy to touch up if it gets scratched. And even though it is very durable it is also easier to remove than Duracoat or Cerakote.

 

Looking good. It is always best to do it in sections for the base coat. For the ones following I covered it with a laundry bag and painted wide strips to give it the fish scale look after painting a tan base coat. I also use textured paint for the base because it goes on thicker and I think it makes the paint job more durable.Then I printed out 4 different kinds of leaves. I laminated them then cut out the leaves. Then I painted negative and positive versions of the leaves. I also made sure to use some glosses too because there are shiny leaves in nature.

Yes, rattle can. Aervoe or something like that from Brownells. I did a sand base coat first. Not totally sold on the green yet but it seems to still be darkening as it cures.

I will be curious to see how well it holds up. I tend to be a bit rough on my carbines.
