Ammunition defect.

This morning as I was loading my sidearm I noticed one of the rounds would not fit into the cylinder. Upon inspection of the round, I found that during the manufacturing process the casing had been damaged. I will be much more cautious to inspect every round from now on. eheruzyg.jpg

I have reloaded some 357Sig that looked like that before I finally got my setup right.  I would have thought the mfg of that round had some type of photo inspection.  What brand?

I had a box of Remington .222's that came with 3 rounds of .223. . I called them and they sent a new box of ammo and a return envelope from FedEx for the box and 3 rounds.

Wow. Was it new Starline brass? I would expect a little better QC from a boutique company like Buffalo Bore, but heck... I work in manufacturing of high end goods, and we have all kinds of stuff fall through the cracks. Nothing blows up and no one gets hurt if we make a mistake, though!

I've had that happen on a few occasion when loading my own but never had any store bought that way. Someone must have been out partying the night before and left their "A game" at home the next morning. I had a set of RCBS .45 dies that I bought used from a member here and it didn't matter how you I set them up, at best, i'd get 1 out of 20 like this. A little Dremel work and she loads as fine of ammo as any other seating die I own.I also picked up some plated .45 bullets that the manufacturer was giving away that did this and i'm still not sure how it happened but the bullets measured a bit over sized and this was the result. Like Red mentioned, Call the manufacturer and email some pics and they will likely send you a whole new box.

Since I started rolling my own, every round gets a quick look over before it goes in the box to be shot. Takes maybe 10 min per 100 rnds, but I feel its WAY worth it.

I liked doing it so much, I also (usually, at least) visually inspect factory ammo before it goes in my range bag to be shot. Just a good habit that takes a few minutes, that can save a whole lot of trouble.

I've had this happen to me before as well.  Found out that the expanding die was not expanding enough.  After ruining enough cases and bullets, I think I got it taken care of.  This happened with multiple brands of brass and bullets, not just one kind.  I noticed mine when it came off the press though.
