Building a 9mm AR

What can expect to spend for a reliable platform?

What mags do you use?

What is the effective range?

Any idea how ballistics would compare to a .38/.357 carbine?

I've got a 4" suppressed sbr 9mm, it used a cmmg deticated lower (colt/ modded Uzi mags)

I got a c products mag when i first put it together, and it was absolute garbage. I've gotten 15 or so modded Uzi mags since that point, and they all work perfect. They are way cheaper than "colt" mags too...

The gun runs 100 percent and is a blast to shoot, though it is a bit gassy with the can. Hopefully I can fix that with a few mods to the charging handle. Edited by 87toy

My C Products mags have been flawless in over 9K rounds. You can pick up 32 rounders for under $15 each.

We are able to hit clays at 100 yards using our 9mm AR. It is a Colt pattern gun.

My title was misleading, I'm not currently building one, just starting my research.
As far as cost, what will the parts cost?

Depends,

Buying a stamp? wanting trick stuff, or just to make it shoot? Will you put up with malfunctions/ trouble shooting?

You could scrape together a super cheap 16“ 9mm ar using a craptastic promag mag block and an existing complete lower, or you can spend big money on bling parts..

The realistic question is what is your budget, before optics? Parts can be picked out from there.

What should I spend on acceptable quality parts? $600? $800?

I've been looking into building a 9MM pistol AR. So far in parts I'm looking at a little over $600 just in the upper

Most people I know have right at $1K in their build.

I could make someone a deal on a very slightly used 7" stainless upper with yhm diamond hand guard and yhm flash hider (9mm).

No bolt.

You could put together a complete, nice gun for 800 bucks pretty easy.

I've got a suppressed SBR as well and it is one of the most fun guns in my small collection.  I used a cmmg dedicated lower with metalform mags and it is flawless.  I've wanted to try the c-products as the price is attractive.  Here's a quick breakdown of cost from memory (so don't quote me on it.)

cmmg lower - 200

any upper - 100

9mm bolt - 225

adco barrel - 200

MOE lower build kit - 120

spikes st-t2 buffer - 30

samson rail - 175

aimpoint pro - 400

magpul rsa - 30

magpul sling - 60

magpul asap - 30

metalform mag - 35ea

AAC tirant - 850

2x tax stamps - 400
