Any of you guys cook and eat armadillos?

I see tons of recipes for them and also the notion you can catch leprosy from them seems to have been debunked. They say it tastes like pork.

I once saw where some old Mexicans were able to somehow chop their way through the gristle to extract the meat then

spent hours cooking them. They say it was ok to eat but why go to all that trouble to get a meal when there's much

better roadkill on the highways of TN?

If I ever get to the point I need to eat an Armadillo, I will probably take the easy way out and eat a bullet instead.

With enough condiments, seasoning and spice... I suppose you could force about anything down your gullet including but not limited to armadillo.

Hoover Hog. Damn near went extinct during the Depression. Groundhogs were of course more haute cuisine.

Never had a dillo, but can tell you that whistle pigs are just fine.

Armadillos are quite often carriers of salmonella. Well done would be the only option bleach everything that the meat/blood touches.

MMMMM C-rats. Spegetti and beef "chunks", beef and potatos, I especially enjoyed the hardened 1/2" thick slab of lard that setteled on the top. One of my favorites was ham and eggs, kinda like a pate made of powdered eggs, I would trade turkey or cheese or my John Wayne bar for that.

Heh, kinda fussy for people who count "frogs legs" amongst their local specialities. I certainly wouldn't blanch at giving armadillo a try if it was fresh killed and well cooked.

Well, I have never eaten any dillo and don't plan to any time soon but I  have eaten some really strange things in my life in the jungles of Southeast Asia back in the late 60's early 70's and was glad to get them. I watched a few of these survival programs on TV and seen a few things that they passed up eating that were rather tasty if they would have tried them.............jmho

Yeah, I'd give it a shot at least. I never would have thought I'd like tripe, and while I don't really, I can eat it if cooked right and rather enjoy it in menudo.

I dunno. I've never seen a buzzard eat a dead cat. They'll just lay there and rot.

We shot and cleaned an Armadillo once. We took the meat, which is very lean, and ground it up with beef to make Armadillo Burgers. I wasn't bad, but we never did it again.
