Looking for a good .22 round which will mostly be used for target shooting.

I found this and like what I have seen so far from the Federal site.

Anyone have experience with these rounds? How about the website I listed to purchase them? Any other suggestions for which rounds I might want to look at or the venue to purchase them?

Thanks in advance for the replys!

MidwayUSA is a great company to deal with. I've never had any issues with them.

As far as the ammo goes, it's like any other gun/ammo combonation. Some guns seem to eat certian ammo just fine, and not work well with others. It really depends on what your gun likes. I'd look at Wal-Mart.

With that being said, I've never had any issues with American Eagle ammo, period. I'd give it a shot.

If you're going HARD CORE target shooting, that ammo can be very, very expensive. I know a smallbore competitor, and not only did she give well over $1k for her rifle, she's paying almost centerfire prices on ammo.

Naw not hard core. Just average. Glad to hear some good experience with the round and the website.

Midway is a good company. I've made a number of purchases from them and never a problem.

Have you tried any of the bulk ammo from Walmart or Academy yet? With shipping, you're going to pay almost double than that from local sources. If you don't like those, then order some online.

Walmart has the AM22 round as well as the 510 Federal. The AM22 comes in a box of 325 for about $15 and the 510 comes in a brick of 500 or 550 for about $14. From my research however, I have found the American Eagle AE5022 to be a little better. So I do not know if it is worth it or if I should go with the 510 or AM22 instead.

I know that some of the cheaper rounds build up some nasty stuff fast. I have a Remington 572 pump .22 which I have been having considerable issues with it jamming no matter how clean I try and keep it. Most people I have talked to around here firmly believe it is the ammo I have been using.

If the Federal 510 or AM22 that Walmart sells would be just as good then I am willing to give them a go.

That's true, some of the bulk ammo tends to be dirty. The Colt .22lr semi auto that I have seems to like CCI mini mags the best.

I had (notice the past tense) a 597, and let me tell you... the feeding problems could not have been the ammo's fault... unless over a dozen different big name ammo types are all bad.

I got a Wally World Special 10/22 and 95% of the problems disappeared. I think if I had put a weight on the bolt release handle like most customized 10/22s have, the other 5% of the problems would have disapeared.

Best of luck finding a happy combination for your gun.

Have you tried some standard velocity stuff? Sometimes slowing down the blowback action can help cycling. My gun was closing in on the cases and squishing them before they could be ejectted free of the bolt.

I have had bad luck with the federal. Worked fine in the customized 10/22, but maybe 1/3 jammed in the Neos, 1/10 wouldnt fire in the stock 10/22, and maybe 1/50 wouldnt fire in the MKIII.

If you want a round that generally works in every gun, spend the extra couple bucks and pick up the CCI Mini-Mags. I have yet to own or fire a gun that those wont cycle in reliably.

Not sure what you are planning on firing this ammo out of, but my recommendation would be to pick up 10 different kinds of inexpensive 22 ammo and find out which one your gun(s) likes the best.

+1, if nothing else works try CCI mini mag 40gr solids.

I have a super picky P22 and it will always feed well using CCI Velocitor. The minimags work great too, I"ve had the best experiences with CCI ammo in general as far as .22lr goes.
