Hi guys! I'm a student at UT and i am from Chattanooga. I currently only own a SA XD-9, but for now it is more than enough for me and my student budget hehe.

I have been shooting regularly at Coal Creek Armory, however it is beginning to eat a hole in my pocket, and I can't justify paying $200+ for a yearly membership when in all likely hood I will be back in Chattanooga this summer. Are there any cost effective ranges near campus? I have been trying to find some more info about this range at Norris. How far is it from downtown Knoxville? How is the pistol range? I would like to be able to shoot 7/15/25 yards... Can anyone point me to some detailed info about the range or show me some pictures of the range itself?

Thanks, and glad to be a part of the community!

Welcome to TGO from a Knoxville feller...

The Norris Range is pretty funky, but the price is right. $30 a year good through June 30, or $15/trip.. You get a key, just go to the range, unlock the gate, and start shootin. It's about 20 or more miles from campus. For pistols, just a big wooden backstop for your targets, two or three folks can shoot at a time.

The rifle range is better, has about 7 positions, with tables, roof. Couple hundred yards or so. Actually, you can shoot pistols there too; there's no supervision, so BE CAREFUL.

Closer is the TWRA range, only about 10 miles north of campus. It's a bench range (you actually have to sit down) but the price is only about $5 for each 2 hours: I think you can "join" it also for a yearly fee. It is supervised, quite strict, but quite safe.

Hope this helps some.

Hollar at me if you want to go out to the Norris range sometime (or the TWRA one) I might go (retired, so around in daytime). Weekdays are best out there, not as many around. You have to stop at Norris Police dept and pay for the one time and put down key deposit and turn it back in or, best deal, if you just go 3 times or so is the $30, plus you don't have to turn the key back in, they change the lock yearly.
