impulse buy.......ATI 1911

Recommended Posts

grabbed it for 329 shipped and after the rebate its 299...

Pretty well made for 300 bucks but the recoil spring is DOA ,soon as I shot the first round I was like Umm OK this thing is bouncing off the frame.

The trigger is honestly 15+ pounds or more (stiffest I ever tried on a 45)

making it harder to hit the target than hoped. Wont feed anything without a slide nudge so Im assuming that is because the

recoil spring was dead or I need to polish up the ramp but it seems pretty smooth to me out of the box so Im assuming its the dead spring

I already ordered a wilson spring kit and plan to try again .fit and finish was surprisingly great and the gun feels tight and heavy ,trigger is crisp

but way too heavy . Good gun to learn on and fiddle with which is why I got it but so far it needs tuning in a big way

Looking for a cheap 1911 not a bad deal so far

Guns and Asmo has recoil springs and if you plan to mess around with the sear spring pick up one of those. If you like spending ALL the money go to them.

I think the next G-Town Gun Show at the Agri-center is only a week or two away. There's aways a guy there that has  most of the parts

you need and he's not trying to make a million dollars off you.

Unless you get a lemon (possible with ANY brand) how could you go wrong with a $300 1911?

I agree it's a great price point to learn the platform and spend a few buck upgrading parts.

Have heard polishing feed ramps on 1911 can be tricky if you get the angle off, but I'm not a 'smith. I'll bet the new springs and a few more rounds through it will fix it.

For an impulse buy I can't fault you on your selection as I believe you did very well on the deal. Simple drop in parts replacements like you've already ordered are generally all any 1911 clone need to bring them up to respectable standards. Overall I'd rate you at 98% or better on this selection, evaluation and proposed solution. Pretty good I'd say.

I will know soon......Polished the feed ramp and barrel to a mirror and will have the an all new set of

wilson combat springs installed  also and head out to the range ....I bought the gun for me to tinker with

Hide sight 20 20 I should have bought one of those 399 Taurus;s they are selling all over the place now

much better foundation

If its a baked enamel finish then touch it up and keep on moving until enough finish chips away to redo it. Otherwise I'm seeing this as being a successful purchase and follow up project.

at the end of the day it all worked out and this was my first 1911 I had to learn to tear into and make work, now I need to make it more

accurate, its no where near as accurate as my Springfield's

Easiest and least expensive fix is a fitted barrel bushing which is DIY doable if you take your time.

Good info..I looked them up,looks cheap and easy......Im on it

but I guess the question I would have is how can I measure mine to see how loose it is?
