Knife roll or case/box for storage?

Recommended Posts

I searched and found a few old threads about knife storage but would like to get a few opinions on the reasons why you store the way you do. With the TGO group buys going on as well as me wanting to start collecting case knives (Copperlock and Mini Copperlocks) I am going to need a good way to store and access them.

While I don't plan on having any safe queens I'm sure there will be a few of the knives I will baby. I'd prefer to have convenient access to all of my knives though which has me thinking a knife roll would work. However it seems like the knives would rub against each other in one of those. Of course I'd also want a way to keep moisture out. I'd like to get some specifics of how and why you store your knives the way you do.

Those look right up my alley for the Protech and other higher end knives. For the case knives though I'm gonna have to find something cheaper or that will hold more knives for the money.

I use a tackle box. Since many of my knives are from the 1800's I wrapped them in plastic wrap. Seems to have worked well for the past 20 years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

There are silicon knife socks that are already sectioned to keep them from touching. I'll put up a picture of one tomorrow. SMKW sells them.

Thanks. I thought that I remembered something like that. I mean, I surely wouldn't have an original idea. lol

For my more expensive folders I use one of these:

http://www.edcknives.com/bills-custom-cases-6-pack-6-x-2/

if you commission Bill to make you a case, you will be delighted, several  years ago he made me two 12 knife Burgundy nylon cases they were built better than anything I have used

before I got my Maxpedition  ones I tried to contact him as I could only find the leather ones available, if you can find them there is no better knife case available in my opinion

It seem like every hobby all of us have you have to wait or search high and low for the good stuff! I think I am going to go with one of the Maxpedtion bags for my budding Protech collection and something like the sack ups for my Kershaws. Looks like Maxpedition makes some pretty good stuff. I've been needing a good get home bag for a while now so maybe I'll buy it all at once.

If you get on Maxpedition's email list they'll send coupons pretty regularly.

What about auto knives? Better to store open or closed?

I have always stored all of my automatic knives closed, if they are of high quality it does not hurt them at all. I had a Microtech UDT stored closed for over 8 years that fired just as fast as when it was new

Hopefully I'll find a roll or case for knives at the gun show today.  I didn't realize how many knives I've acquired over the years.

OK, I received the Sackups Protector 18 the other day. I must say I am impressed with it. At least for my use. Easy to use and open flap on pockets. Rolls up nicely. Silicon impregnated, but not greasy.

This should work well for my small number of knives.

Yeah I ended up with two of the smaller ones. Good for case knives but some of my larger knives don't fit well. Good quality though.
