Military Vehicles to small town police!!

I found this article interesting so thought I would post the link. They are giving these massive IED vehicles that weigh in at a mere 45,000 lbs to local police departments all over the country. The town this story was about didn't request it but got it anyway.  I have no real idea why the Feds would be putting them in small towns all over the country unless they have plans they have not even shared it the small towns yet. The towns will be required to do all up keep and maintenance on these beasts if they are to be used in future. The town that got the one in the story thinks it is some kind of joke.

That's a win win in the eyes of the Gooberment.... Let the city take care of these EXTREAMLY high cost trucks and they can take them back at any time.... Or you fill in the blank....

i doubt they are giving these away out of the goodness of their heart.  And besides they belong to us,  taxpayers.   And I suspect are being put in place to possibly use against taxpayers.

How else are they going to serve warrants against dangerous criminals like pot smokers and those with unpaid parking tickets?

Maintenance is enormous on these vehicles if you put any miles on them.

A simple C service (12k mi) on my H1 from the dealership will cost $3.5k, I do it for $300.

Those dummies at yahoo don't know the difference between a MRAP and a MATV (that's the picture)

I have an idea they have other plans for these vehicles in the future so they are strategically placing them in towns spread all across the Country. Save the Feds from having to transport them to a SHTF location cause there are already several located close by and have been maintained by what ever police force has them saving the Feds millions...............jmho

Not so sure I could consider an 18 ton blast/gunfire resistant truck that gets even worse fuel mileage than a full on firetruck "just another vehicle".

It DOES raise the interesting question of "WHY do you need it"? (sounds kinda like the "assault weapon" question to us civilians right?)...funny how "they" want to tell us no, but for "them" this is ok...

 

The obvious argument we will likely hear is "just in case"....of what? We likely won't get a viable, reasonable justification. Personally I think it more a case of "big boys toys" rather than a genuine need.

There is no place in local police departments for military vehicles.  Also there is no reasonable use for drones in local police departments.
