Those lowlifes have been in custody for some extended time now. Apparently they tried to enlist the help of another student, who thankfully ratted them out.

Nope, one kid's "counselor" (which I take to mean psychiatrist) informed police.

Search harder.  That was later in the event sequence ( I have read so many reports on it this week, I forget which outlet ran that item).

The WBIR link says this....

The investigation into the planned attack started when a counselor contacted the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 25, 2013. The counselor told deputies a 15-year-old talked about his plans to kill students and staff at Volunteer High School.

Shocker of the century...

Lots more info in this one. Thanks.

Here is one report, but I saw another that was more explicit.

Looks like December 17 was a key date with one of the other students.

As I understand, the other student had something to do with counselor coming onto alert.

Shocker of the century...

I think the local TV stations were scooped by KnoxNews, who in turn had picked it up from JC area outlets.

KnoxNews had a link to JC rag about 6-8 hours before the other Knox outlets did.

The really good news is that as 'smart" as these cretins were, they were still stupid enough to get caught in planning stages, not execution (poor choice of word, but fits)

ETA - Looks like parent alerted counselor, so maybe other kid alerted the parent or was cornered by the counselor.

ETA 2 - We wont find out any real details until trial.  Judge has issued a gag order.

Admittedly, I am missing something.

Apparently the "other" kids were mentioned in the journal (found by parent, forwarded to counselor). - http://www.timesnews.net/article/9078056/hawkins-teens-ages-16-and-17-accused-of-planning-mass-school-shooting

How did the parent discover the journal?  Sheer luck/general suspicion, or tip?

I wonder, did "others" just sit on the information after being asked to participate in violence, or did they act upon it?

Were they mentioned in the journal by name, or just in general?

Did they come forward on their own, or were they approached via investigation (ex. routine questions of peer groups)?

The more I think about this one, the more unsettling it becomes.  Secrets, especially among teenagers, rarely stay contained.

I would hope the kids they tried to recruit would have come forward. If not, I worry even more about the future of this world.
